Ever hear of a Beach being closed because it's too hot? Yeah, I grew up here, and I can confidently say, "Me, either". Popular North Avenue Beach in Chicago was closed by police late on Memorial Day due to gang violence; but Mayor Rahm "Deadfish" Emmanuel says it was closed because it was "too crowded" and "too hot" and ambulances couldn't get through to people suffering from heat exhaustion. Quick! LOOK EAST! See that big blue puddle-- it's still about 52 degrees. Hot? Get in. However, as a lifelong resident of the area-- and a regular attendee at Chicago's Air and Water Show which takes place in AUGUST, I have been on North Avenue Beach many times when it was hotter, and more crowded and I have NEVER seen it closed. So, why lie? Because Chicago is disintigrating. The varnish is coming off, and the world will know that it is fast becoming Detroit. After numerous callers to Chicago's WLS AM 890 talk shows and discussions on police blogs confirmed that gang activity was the reason the police decided to close the beach, the Mayor and the top Cop have said, nope-- not the reason. www.wlsam.com/Article.asp?id=2202016&spid=

The place has been a cesspool for years, but Mayor Richard J. Daley was able to keep a thick coat of varnish over the rot.

I don't know how you people do it down there. I would be a lightening rod if I ever lived in a city like Chicago or Detroit. I would walk around armed at all times and if ever some degenerate tried to shake me down I'd shoot him in an instant and then take off to leave a nice little unsolved mystery for the beleaguered cops to never figure out. It is high time proper citizens start taking back the country street by street and city by city.

I have no reason to doubt that a Democrat adminstration would have an insanely stupid policy as closing the beach because it's too hot, but Police have declined to say what the temperature threshold is for closing the beach.

Was Memorial Day freakishly hot in Chicago this year? Like record-setting hot or something?

Was Memorial Day freakishly hot in Chicago this year? Like record-setting hot or something? It got hot- yes. Unusually so. But again- no hotter, and no more crowded than the Air and Water Show on that same beach in August.

What is going on in the world? ... More access to what has always been going on in the world, IM(not so)HO To a certain extent- yes. However, this story is about just the opposite: it's about a blatant attempt by government with the complicity of law enforcement to conceal the truth. They weren't successful this time, but it makes you wonder how much they've successfully buried?
