NAG---about money, but not grocercies Now that I've still got a job---for the year at least---I'm trying to figure out how much I should be saving in my ING account and my IRA. Currently, I put $300 a month in the ING savings account (EF/future-possible wedding fund) and $165 in my IRA. I do not contribute to the school's 403b due to some problems I've heard about it. I have no debt except for whatever's currently on the CCs which will be paid at the end of the month. I have no mortgage thanks to my mom signing the house over to me. I tithe 10% of my pre-tax income ech payday. Should I put more in the IRA or leave it the way it is?

If you are not contributing the max possible to your retirement account (whether it is an IRA or Roth or a taxable brokerage account), you will be missing out. I think you already knew that you should be contributing more though or you wouldn't have asked. You just can't predict what might happen in the future. The more you can put away and the earlier you can do it, will benefit you the most.

My fear was that I wouldn't be able to find a job after my two years doing special ed was up. I didn't want to have all this money in an IRA and have nothing to live on if I couldn't find a job immediately. I have been fortunate enough to make about $2100 tutoring this year and will make around $1000 teaching summer school. I had planned to stick it all in the ING, but now I think I should put the summer school pay in the IRA. I split last year's summer school pay evenly between the two. I think I will switch things around and put $165 a month in the ING and $300 in the IRA. That would be $3600 a year PLUS what I can put in from the summer school/tutoring. That will max it out at $5000.

My very creative Aunt is making my boquet out of my mothers, grandmothers and great grandmothers old brooches, so it will actually mean something to me and I can pass it down to my daughters. My splurge is the depression glass cake plates that I'm collecting, I need 7 so that each table has one.
DF never had a "real" wedding before and he's amazed at how much I've been able to do on such a small budget. The entire wedding for 80 people with open bar and full buffet will be under $4,000.

RE: RENPURE REBATEskubikky: To be honest with you, I don't know where the money comes from for the UPs. We've discussed this a number of times here - whether the money comes from the retailer or the manufacturer or maybe even a combination of the two. I didn't trust the deal at RA especially since we had already been told that Renpure would not honor a rebate request that was paid for with rewards. A lot of times if a rebate or deal seems the least little bit "iffy", I take a pass or wait for confirmation that it is working (in the case of a deal). Over the years, I've just learned that it is not worth the aggravation especially if it isn't a HUGE MM (i.e. more than $10 in profit). I was miffed and decided to call back and try to get more info. The CSR(I think it was the same one), said that the $4.99 UP reward is arranged between RA and them( the manufacturer). So, there's the answer, they consider the TMF to have been given in the form of the UP reward. Fair enough. FYI: Redmond, who sold Aussie brand to Bristol-Squibb in 1997) own the Renpure brand.

What do y'all think about this rebate? beautypureandsimple.com/content/skin-care-rebateIts for Organix skincare items, up to $50! The way I'm reading it, you can buy as many Organix skincare items as you want, and get up to $50 back in total for them all. You have 30 days to make all your purchases and the rebate is good through the end of the year. My only hesitation is that the Organix hair care rebates from a year or so ago were awful, taking forever to pay out. But I think they switched to a different rebate processor. And this rebate only requires that you submit the UPC numbers, not the actual labels from the bottles. So worse case, you could return everything if the rebate didn't come in. Anyone seen Organix skincare stuff in their stores? I wonder what the prices look like. EDIT - ok duh, should have looked at the rebate a little more carefully. If you open the shopping list document, it lists out which items qualify and what rebate amount you'd receive for each item. I doubt they'd be free just with the rebate, but maybe combined with a sale.

If anyone still has those Just My Size coupons from All You mag...I finally went to use mine yesterday and found a zip-up jacket for $1. It was the only JMS clearance item that I found left in the store; it was marked at $3 but rang up at $1. The cashier wasn't quite sure how to do the coupon at first, but eventually got it to go through. It won't fit, but I'm sure someone can make use of it...and it's hard to argue with -$4.

No wonder they were so quick to reprogram the computers to limit that one. I know that a lot of you guys didn't get in on that deal (the RA TP) because of the limits they imposed, but I am still a little bummer that I did not get more on Sunday morning when I could. I didn't want to be "piggy" and my store had A TON of it; they never sold out.

What was the RA TP deal? skubikky - It was a free after UP's deal on RA brand toilet paper, tissues and paper towels (or something like that). The circular mentioned nothing about limits but once people started buying it (and why wouldn't people buy free tp?) RA put a limit of one or two per card. I think they imposed the limit on Sunday afternoon or Monday morning. Stores had signs posted about the limit and it was just a mess. RA has done that a couple times since - arbitrarily imposed limits during the middle of the week. It doesn't make for very happy customers.

What was the RA TP deal?
Last fall, I believe, RA had their Simply brand of tp for $1 and gave back a $1 UP, thus making it free because you could roll the $1 UP, buy another TP and so on and so on. I was lucky enough to get there when the doors opened-very rare for me on Sunday morning and got around 10 pkgs. There were plenty on the shelves. Did the same at my 2nd RA. Sometime that same day, they started putting signs up limiting people to 1 or 2. I think foks were going in and clearing the shelves totally. Speaking of RA, here's a deal I did yesterday: 2 Bengay $5.49x2 = $9.98 1 gal. milk $3.09 1 Starburst .50 2 Planters mixed nuts, BOGOF $5.99 - 2/$3 Bengay q's -$1 Video Value Bengay q 1 .25 Starburse Video Value q -$3/$15 survey q -2/$1 UPs -.55 Real Calif. milk q Total OOP: $6.15 Okay, so that IS a little high for us hounds, but for some reason I could NOT resist the Planters mixed nuts ! So I feel like I paid for one can of the nuts and got everything else free. Ha, ha! Also got another survey and finished the WW for a $10 UP. I know I'm getting older, but I don't think I need all this Bengay and Tylenol Precise! Is it me, or are fewer folks posting their deals? That's always been my favorite part 'cuz I like to copy!! ;D

Have you thought about doing a Roth IRA? on your returns from your old 401k. A lot of people panic when there is a major downturn which is the exact wrong thing to do. You really should attempt to get your retirement savings to 15-20% of your income. Retirement planning for young people is a lot different from what it was when DH and I were young and starting out. We contributed 16% (the max) to DH's retirement accounts from the first day that he became eligible (on his first anniversary with the company) when he was 24 years old. Some people would have thought that we were crazy for contributing that much when we didn't have a decent car or own a home or anything else to speak of - especially because it wasn't even tax deductible then!! Fast forward 28 years (2 years ago), when DH was diagnosed with Crohn's disease. This has been huge in his decision to take early retirement next year at age 55. Without diligent planning/saving for retirement, he would not have the option and might have had to work until he was too sick to do otherwise - and possibly too sick to even enoy retirement. Once you start making those regular contributions, your lifestyle will adjust and you'll be on automatic pilot - you won't even miss the money.

I'd rather be in charge of when my money goes in. Plus, there's no employer match so I'm not losing anything. I have a 401k in KY from my old job that is finally back up to where it was prior to the collapse. I have a return rate of 48% on it. ;D shelly: Well that makes perfect sense regarding the 403b. Dancinmama--I completely understand where you are coming from. (BTW--sorry to hear of your DH's Crohn's, DBF's dad has it.. ). I have considered putting at least 10% of my pre-tax into the Trad. IRA. I have thought about the Roth. Can I have both? My big thing is the uncertainity of my job. For 4 years, I only made about $20,000 a year. During 3 of those years I was working 2 jobs to make that little. When I started making teacher's pay (almost 2x as much) I wanted to live it up a bit before concentrately on retirement....I put insulation in the attic, paid $1,000 cash for a 21 y/o car, $600 on furniture thats older than I am and a few other luxuries--modem instead of dial-up . I don't know how long this job will last....... I'll see what I can do to get $5000 in the IRA before the end of the year.... only $825 so far.

That's always been my favorite part 'cuz I like to copy!! ;D I don't think it's you, but fewer people are posting their deals because there aren't many out there that apply. CVS EB's haven't been worth it. Wags has been noteworthy, but not much in the way of MM. So, rolling has been my game...but, if I have to burn them, I will (but in a good way I can walk there. I don't have a Rite Aid, so, can't answer to that... Gas prices and tax have pretty much nixed anything you don't already have in your stockpile. I don't think Extreme Couponing helped anyone who really uses coupons correctly, and from what I'm experiencing, coupon values have gone down with the pricing going up and the size of the item going down. Regional Blogs are good, but across the country, my Safeway/Dominicks or Albertsons/Jewel won't match up with anyone's depending on their location. My Meijer sales are a week after I think East Coast. Not to be "Gloom and Doom" but I think it's a little more of a challenge and a waiting game. I certainly would love to see more people posting their scenarios, I would LOVE the extra eyes for what's out there, as I would love to post a good one for me... Today I saw and "heard" IL has the highest Gas prices in the nation, and we are due for another .30 increase by the end of summer..... Makes hounding without a plan worthless. Tax at 9.5% in "Crook" County before coupons....

Thanks everyone for the heads up on the coupon thing. I know someone who knows something about it. I will ask her what the fee is for. Maybe they are giving us an envie full of Q's! I'm sure I can learn just as much here anyway. freemen- Great job on the wedding plans. I will see if I can find any great deals tomorrow while out doing DMs shopping.
