Entering this country illegally, and living here illegally, should be considered a crime unless one was brought here illegally as a child. Illegals are not the backbone of our economy, and they are not "necessary." Americans can and will do their jobs as long as they are paid a living wage. The problem with the GOP is, they claim to be tough on illegal immigration, but at the end of the day, it is just a claim. Repubs had 6 years (01 to 06) to crack down on illegal immigration and to secure the borders (especially after 9 11) and they did NOTHING! Repubs want illegals here as much as democrats do. The GOP just pretends to be "tough" on this issue to appease its base. The Feds (dem or repub) will never do anything of any real significance, to control illegal immigration.

The problem is not the pubs, it is the sanctuary cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco and NYC, to name just a few.

Wasserman-Schultz
I don't like Ms Debbie Wasserman-Schultz and when I see her picture on TV, I switch the channel....who in God's green earth wants to listen to that lady go on and on about what is wrong with republicans ad nausem, and ad infinitum? Not me that is for sure..
I cannot stand that lady and have a greatest sympathy for her husband who must have the patience of Job to tolerate her ranting and raving about a lot of nonsense.....IMHO

Paul I VERY seldom agree w/you but on this I do. Example:
It is illegal to drive over xx mph on the highway. If I go xx + 10 I AM doing something illegal for which I am likely to get a ticket having commited a crime per a particular statute in my state/county/city.

Well, the problem IS liberals and progressives-- be they John McCain and George W. Bush, or John Kerry and Barrack Obama. It's an institutional, national problem fueled by people in both parties who believe the way to court Mexican-American voters is by looking the other way as illegal immigrants flout our laws, and overwhelm our social services. Of course Democrats look at it as a way to import voters for their wildly unpopular ideas that would never gain support of a majority of legal American citizens; and as a way to grow the welfare state that they feed on.

I think there are three main problems with immigration- specifically immigration from Mexico and Central and South American nations--
1. We have not acknowledged the obvious market demand from these places to come and live and work in America, though not necessarily assimilate and become citizens. Before the unions lobbied the government to stop it, we had a successful, functioning guest worker program that was working just fine. We need another one.
2. We have not acknowledged the obvious market demand for US Citizenship and exploited it. We need to revise upward the number of well-educated, gainfully employed, on-track-to-assimilate people we permit to come and be citizens of the United States.
3. We refuse to admit failure in the war on drugs which fuels the majority of the border area violent crime.
If we do these things, we will have more productive immigrants, and it will be easier to do the ONE thing we MUST do to protect our country from the threat of islamic radicals trying to smuggle a dirty bomb, nuclear weapon, or fighters over our border-- and other threats.

Agreed. Their answer was a guest worker plan that allowed them to come here legaly before disappearing. They knew every time they raised the number of visas allowed, very few would be renewed or kept track of. No serious border security was implemented then either.Janet Napolitano fought Bush for border security funding when she was guv of Arizona..... My biggest question would be if either party were serious about the problem, why do we still entice them here with free scholing, healthcare, jobs,etc...?

How do you explain Ronald Reagan granting Amnesty to millions of illegal aliens in 1986? How do you explain the fact that the full on Republican congress of 2001 to 2006 did NOTHING to secure the borders after 9 11? Illegal immigration is a bi partisan tragedy whether you want to admit it or not.
