Well, as May comes to a close, in North Atlanta, in the flooring business. I have to say after four months of "good sales", we began to see less and less traffic in April. Last months less traffic has turned into this month's poor sales. I will be off about 30% YOY for May. I will still be up year to date. But, how demoralizingly one bad month can make you feel. I hope all of you are doing great and had positive numbers for May. I really believe I am just getting tired of fighting what appears to be a losing battle! One step forward and two back. It just really makes me sick!! I never post on the "Make no mistake" thread anymore hoping to be more positive. But I almost feel beaten by this God forsaken economy!

bga4444, long time, all the same, howdy! Your a tough old bird bga and you commented long back (in which I reference your comment from time to time) 'The DECOY 409 Post : Central Banking in Crisis: Some Twenty Countries on the Verge of Insolvency' Started 11 months, 1 week ago by BGA4444 I have to agree with Decoy on this one. This situation is Greece like in this scenario- as budgets are tightened and taxes are raised to cover shortfalls in tax collections a drop in GDP and increased unemployment is the "only " outcome. The drop in GDP leads to further decreases in tax revenues. This is just awful, and folks we are in the middle of a vicious cycle. Basically we are screwed! boardreader.com/thread/The_DECOY_409_Post_Central_Banking_in_Cr_g9m5X120k2.htmlNothing wrong with staying POSITIVE bga. But as you stated long ago,the situation is and has been in motion.

BGA, I hope business picks up for you – chin up. I am finding that work goes very hot/cold in shorter spans.
I like to hold a close circle of dependable vendors – just over the past couple years, some have actually gone on to “bigger things” and that’s fine. Others are struggling, and I try to throw them bones when I can, but they have to perform – no 2nd chances – too many want work.
Working for me isn’t about cutting prices to the bone – as a matter of fact after a deal is done, I’ll sometimes hand write a nominal bonus amt – simply for doing what is requested by a specific date – that gets attention. And I couldn’t care less to get any more personal w/anyone – so the people who blow up my phone, wanting to get to talk me, etc. are actually wasting my time – and I push them away.
I guess my point being, for those people who do walk-in, do your best to have your people take cues for what they want – what you think is great service might not align w/what they want. Chatty drives me batty.

BGA - Sorry to hear about your situation - We were down 15% for the month of May and down 10% YOY - That's on top of a bad last year. It's definitely a struggle. Like Frank said above - For those of us Lucky and Smart enough to make it through this ; it will bring big rewards in the future. Less competition and booming sales at some point.

We are down over last year, too, but we have actually been booking some decent sized jobs in the last couple of months. Our backlog is growing and has potential to grow a good deal more. So maybe there is some loosing in the construction market.
On the other hand we just had to front a vendor of ours $75k so they could meet payroll. Yikes. I am crossing my fingers that we will get that back.
