...and CNN's Jack Cafferty was one of the few people to notice how poorly the President's response to the disaster was, and how it would be covered if it were George W. Bush doing the same things in our post-Katrina world... Cafferty did NOT specifically note the fact that BiBi was the first world leader to say anything to the residents of Joplin, MO; but many liberal supporters of Obama noted this fact in the comments section of the blog) From Wolf Blitzer's show (and I think it's still at the blog for Cafferty on CNN: caffertyfile.blogs.cnn.com/2011/05/24/does-former-minn-gov-tim-pawlenty-have-the-answers/ ) CAFFERTY: What message is conveyed by pictures of President Obama downing a pint of Guinness and laughing it up with the Irish people or playing ping-pong with the British prime minister while the people of Joplin, Missouri, search through the wreckage of their lives looking for dead family members? We have already experienced the worst tornado outbreak in the last 50 years. Meanwhile, we've airlifted the first family and that gang that travels with them to Europe for six days of hobnobbing with various heads of state, eating the finest foods, drinking the finest wines, while Mother Nature tears the heart out of innocent people's lives. Remember Katrina and the pathetic response of the Bush administration to the utter destruction of the city of New Orleans? I can't help but think that voters remembered well Katrina when they stepped into the booth in 2008 and elected America's first African-American president. Wolf Blitzer was taken aback, speechless for a few seconds before, in the great tradition of the father in, "A Christmas Story" he blurts out, "You know, Jack, he is gonna go there on Sunday after he returns from Europe." in a failed effort to rescue Obama from legitimate criticism...because you know, we can't criticize the dear leader-- not on his own state controlled broadcast. CAFFERTY: I'm aware of that, Wolf. BLITZER: Okay. Thanks, Jack. Yeah- thanks, Jack. Thanks for blasting the President on my show. You know damn skippy you didn't read the lines I gave you, you can't come on here and think for yourself, and make objective comparisons of Obama to Bush, or suggest the media is in the tank for Obama- even though we are. My ratings could go up-- we could end up with tens of viewers-- then I'd lose my job, and then what? Get a job on Fox? Get outta here you jackass!

Let's wait and see what Obama does upon his return before we condemn him for what he does upon his return. He very well might smack Cantor up the side of the head and go out to Joplin. The voters may well remember Cantor playing politics with a disaster come election day 2012 instead. No way! Let's just make wild assumptions that the government is doing nothing, fire the director of FEMA for no reason, and start a legend that Obama secretly wants to screw these people just because they're white. Now, I realize many liberals here do not have the capicity to grasp sarcasm when it is presented, so the above was a JOKE that suggests we treat OBAMA the SAME way many treated BUSH in the wake of Katrina. I am NOT personally suggesting we do that, nor that Obama thinks white people suck and deserve to be killed by tornados as allah permits. Again, JOKING!

And the toothpaste Obama just cannot put back in the tube is that a foreign world leader was the first to say anything. I don't fault him for the trip- the President doesn't actually DO anything in these situations anyway except as Bush noted-- get in the way due to the airspace and other security considerations. But I DO fault him for not saying anything- especially given his record. How long was it before he acknowledged the BP oil spill? And then he floundered around for months trying to formulate any kind of a coherent policy statement on the disaster and ended up with "F*** BP, and let's just move on and forget about all this" as official US policy.
