yay! that's awesome news. I caught an article earlier today talking about how she was finally going to get to confront the bastard. I'll check out your link later, just wanted to say yay for the sentence.

He deserves it. Keep a kind thought for the innocent man driven to suicide over this case too. I don't think I heard about that, tough. Was someone falsely accused?

Good. He deserves it. I knew Elizabeth would be okay because she is from a strong religious family--- walk the walk people, not talk the talk people. She is a wonderful young woman, shines with light and goodness. It's pretty amazing. Thinking of Gabby now-- does anyone remember how long was it before the nut case in this case was deemed sane enough for trial? I want Gabby's shooter to go down really bad.

Krickitt, a family's religious strength does not mean that her personal strength in the wake of such an intrusive violation is a given. your use of "light and goodness" strikes me as close to the "love and light" that is wished by many a pagan, and reiki healer alike. many atheists also have strength in themselves, and have excellent non-religious support from their families and friends. I thought you'd moved beyond such poor generalizations.

Some of the finest people I have ever met are Mormons. Sorry if that offends you, but it is true. I did not say anything about anybody else. I said I knew Elizabeth would be okay. And she is.

why would that offend me? I'm happy to see people happy in their own beliefs. what bugged me about what you said was that it absolutely implied that those without strong religious bases would not have suffered such an experience so well. I'm sorry that you don't recognize that non-religious people can have excellent support systems that don't require a god(dess) or other deity.

I didn't get the impression krickitt was saying anything about people without strong religious convictions, chiver. Just expressing her opinion that Elizabeth did well because of the strong family values and faith. I agree. In interviews soon after she was rescued from that nightmare she was already on her way to healing based on those values. She had a really clean and clear place to come home to. Very fortunate indeed. That sort of experience would be very difficult for a person without a strong foundation to recover from the way she has. And obviously she does look like an angel. I glimpsed her on television but the sound was down and I didn't know who it was. I immediately had to go find out because I was arrested by her beauty. She looks like a sweet angel. So God bless her and I pray she will have a wonderful life and will not be affected in any way by the horrible experience.
She is wise to reach out to help others. I hope she'll use her voice to help child brides in the Middle East.

with all due respect, Marsha, you lean toward the religious side of things in your own posts. I wouldn't expect you to miss the implication I read from krickitt's post. by implying that one will be OK because of their strong religious background, you slight both those that are not OK regardless of their strong religious beliefs as well as those that are not very religious at all, whether they are dealing with the trauma or not. I'm going to point out again that krickitt has a strong affinity for those in the Mormon faith, even though she herself does not practice it. I can't help but wonder why, as she holds those who practice that faith in such high esteem. you can choose to think that non-religious folks are not a strong as you see yourself, but that's your loss. as for those that just can't handle the situation, I guess they will have to rely on your Christian charity for the less fortunate.

I am sure many will remember that Wanda Barzee pleaded guilty to federal charges of kidnapping and unlawful transportation of a minor across state lines in Smart's abduction. She was sentenced to 15 years in a plea deal in the federal, with a credit for 7 years already served and was ordered to spend five years on probation upon her release – at about 72 years old – and she will have to register as a sex offender. She was also sentenced to 15 years on State charges, and could be ordered to serve all or part of that sentence upon release from federal custody.

Chiver-- I meant to imply nothing. I just said what I said. I feel that Elizabeth is very fortunate to have the family she has. And that's all.
I don't know why the woman got less. Well, of course I do. She turned state's evidence. I did not follow her that well, but from what I heard she never claimed to be held captive or anything. I'm sure they are both crazy as bats, but they were sane enough to hide that girl, cover her and take her in public, and brainwash her in to not running. With Elizabeth's testimony I don't know why they needed the wife at all. One way or the other she will be a ward of the people until she dies, I guess. Let's just hope she is too old to do more damage when she is free again.
