When Barack Obama replaced George Bush, there was unbridled joy among the elites. The days of "cowboy diplomacy" were over! Finally, we had a president who was a careful multi-lateralist, who wouldn't rudely impose his will, but would instead work with allies to build consensus. But that's not what Obama delivered with Israel last week, is it? Obama went to the State Department and insisted Israel needed to stop its "unsustainable" policy toward the Palestinians and "boldly" retreat behind pre-1967 borders. A stunned Benjamin Netanyahu responded as any ally would if so roundly betrayed. He publicly – correctly – denounced Obama’s policy prescription. Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic magazine (and website) posted an item on May 20 headlined: "Dear Mr. Netanyahu, Please Don't Speak to My President That Way." Netanyahu, he wrote, threw a "hissy fit." That pretty much encapsulated the American media’s reaction. "Cowboy diplomacy" is just fine from time to time – if the man in the saddle is Obama. On that night's "NBC Nightly News," reporter Andrea Mitchell was finding anonymous distaste for Netanyahu from other Israeli officials, never mind that his country was unquestionably applauding him: "I was told that even some Israeli officials, David, were uncomfortable with what they acknowledge was a lecturing tone by the prime minister. But he felt very strongly he had to say this to the world, to President Obama's face." By the time Sunday's "Meet the Press" rolled around, Mitchell heightened the attack on Netanyahu for daring to lecture the Almighty Barack. "Netanyahu seized on it. Even before he got on the plane, he criticized the President, and in such a fashion! He lectured him in the Oval Office. And if you look at that picture that you have up there right now, it was a stone-faced Barack Obama and Netanyahu basically treating him like a school boy." Read more:

It's very strange that the liberal media can giggle over someone like Chavez or Achmadinejblahblah trashing Obama, but when a good man like Bibi DARES to respectfully express his view of what is necessary to defend his own country from terrorism it is some huge insult to the POTUS. Also, I WELL remember the insults on Bush-- which was perfectly acceptable, it seems, but as Obama carries on Bush policies--- you said it---- NO ONE may lecture Obama.

It's interesting the way the media dismisses all the disses from thugs worldwide and gets all in a snit over a serious man making a serious and valid point in a very statesmanlike way.

I suspect Obama may have very well shot himself in the.....foot for 2012 campaign funds. There are 'certain' ethnic groups that a generally known to be reasonably well heeled & active that also have LONG memories.

For years, the US administration has insisted on only making "even-handed" statements about the Middle East peace process, while in reality being harshly critical of Israel. This practice has intensified under US President Barack Obama, who more than any other president has demanded dangerous "goodwill gestures" from the Jewish state in order to pacify the Palestinian Arabs. On Tuesday, the White House appeared to shift course when it announced that it was about time for the Palestinians to "give Israel confidence" that the peace process is leading somewhere positive. Israel "is going to require a credible answer from the Palestinians about the role that Hamas is going to play in the new government, and whether a Palestinian partner and interlocutor can credibly say it recognizes Israel's right to exist," Ben Rhodes, deputy national security advisor for strategic communications, told reporters. Rhodes' remarks echoed the demands laid out by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his visit to Washington. It cannot be ignored that the White House appeared to change its tune after Netanyahu addressed the US Congress and won wall-to-wall support from American lawmakers for Israel's positions. Prior to Rhodes' press conference, Obama and his adminisration had been strongly suggesting that Israel was at fault for the lack of peace in the Middle East. www.israeltoday.co.il/tabid/178/nid/22804/Default.aspx

Obama got his ass handed to him over this-- from all sides. Maybe Andrea Mitchell should correct Democrat Senat Majority Leader, Dingy Harry Reid for a similar rebuke of the President's suggestion? Fact is, Obama is all alone with the leaders of Hamas, and the William Ayers-Reverend Jeremiah Wright fringe on this issue. The Israelis, the Democrats, and the Republicans are quite united in their opposition to Obama in this matter.
