Hate to break the Obama tirad this afternoon up but heres a new one regarding the shooting suspect of Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford in Az. It seems for now, he's not able to stand trial. Long psychological explanation but in the vernaculer, he's just a bit "Nut's" ------------------------------------------------- www.salon.com/news/gabrielle_giffords/index.html?story=/news/feature/2011/05/25/us_congresswoman_shot_mental_competency------------------------------------------- [Click on link to read articcle] -------------------------------------------- Topic: Gabrielle Giffords Wednesday, May 25, 2011 15:47 ET Ariz. shooting spree suspect incompetent for trial Jared Loughner will be sent to a federal facility for up to four months in a bid to restore his competence By JACQUES BILLEAUD, Associated Press " Federal judge ruled Wednesday that the suspect in the Tucson shooting rampage that wounded U.S. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is mentally incompetent to stand trial, putting the criminal case against him on hold indefinitely. The decision by U.S. District Judge Larry Burns means Jared Lee Loughner, 21, will be sent to a federal facility for up to four months in a bid to restore his competency. Loughner, dressed in a khaki prison suit and sporting bushy, reddish sideburns, was removed from the hearing after an outburst and had to watch part of the proceeding on a TV screen in another room. Burns had Loughner escorted from the courtroom after Loughner lowered his head and said what sounded like: "Thank you for the freak show. She died in front of me." His head was inches from the table in front of him. Loughner was later brought back into the courtroom, and the judged told him he had a right to watch the hearing. Burns asked Loughner if he wanted to stay in the courtroom and behave or view the proceeding on a screen in another room. Loughner responded: "I want to watch the TV screen." At least two survivors of the Jan. 8 attack looked on: Giffords aide Pam Simon, who was shot in the chest and right wrist; and retired Army Col. Bill Badger, who is credited with helping subdue Loughner after a bullet grazed the back of Badger's head. The ruling came after Loughner spent five weeks in March and April at a federal facility in Springfield, Mo., where he was examined by two court-appointed mental health professionals. The two were asked to determine whether Loughner understands the consequences of the case against him."

I know and have spoken to the cab driver that drove Loughner that morning. He picked him up at the Circle K by my house, drove him to the Wal-Mart a block away, then to the other Wal-Mart about 3 miles away, waited for him both times. Then he drove him to Safeway and went inside with him to get change for the fare. He told me Loughner was no weirder than anyone else we get in our cabs, just another punk kid. He wasn't rambling, sweating, twitching, nothing. JMO, but this is bullshit. Who can't act crazy to avoid a death penalty? I'm pissed off about this, but not surprised. It was pre-meditated mass murder, executed pretty flawlessly and with some effort on his part. I am curious how people with liberal views on crime, death penalty, mental illness, and such see having their own mowed down and this kid sitting in a psych ward? And let's not do the liberal gun talk, either. This punk kid pulled the trigger, not the gun.

Not sure if the two Psychiatrists, and their people, who examined him are "people with liberal views on crime, death penalty, mental illness, ", just that they are professionals in their field and they seem this is the correct decision regarding the young man, for now at least.

I am not suprised. Everything I've read about this man and his conduct certainly pointed to some form of mental illness.
