As a nation, we really need to be doing more to help stop the flood of unwanted pregnancies which would, I hope, reduce the number of abortions being sought.

And I would have expected major progress in this area when the pro-abortion Democrats controlled the House, Senate and the White House. But apparently, there is a lot of money to be made in the baby-killing industry, and that trumped everything else...

I think having babies should be illegal in a whole bunch of circumstances - but gallop never calls me.
The survey results doesn't even make sense.

This interpretation of the OP is slightly different... Americans Still Split Along "Pro-Choice," "Pro-Life" LinesPRINCETON, NJ -- Americans are closely divided between those calling themselves "pro-choice" and those who are "pro-life," now 49% and 45%, respectively, in Gallup's 2011 update on U.S. abortion attitudes. This is similar to a year ago, when 45% were "pro-choice" and 47% "pro-life." However, it is the first time since 2008 that the "pro-choice" position has had the numerical advantage on this Gallup trend.More: www.gallup.com/poll/147734/Americans-Split-Along-Pro-Choice-Pro-Life-Lines.aspx

Why would you say that, chiver? Many of us are VERY in favor of women and MEN taking advantage of the MANY ways, even free ways, to prevent unwanted pregnancies.

I looked that baby up, Marsha. 20 weeks gestation. Within what pro-choice people find acceptable. Sorry, that's a baby.

This is NOT an abortion. It is a 21 week baby-- alive.

Most people are comfortable with voluntary until 14 weeks, and for a medical cause after that. A medical cause does not necessarily mean that anyone's life is in danger, but there is a medical problem, such as a birth defect, that will significantly reduce the quality of life for the child.

In my opinion, the picture you've posted, krickitt, is not 21 weeks gestation. At 21 weeks, a fetus is about 8" long and weighs around 10-11 ounces. Even with high-technology in neonatal intensive care, these little ones rarely make it. Some will make it for an hour, a day, but they don't leave the hospital. The baby shown in the picture is older ... probably by a couple of weeks, so there may be more hope. It's not unusual for the gestational figure to be off by a week, or so.
To qualify, I've said right along I believe 21 weeks should be the determinating age for viability. I still believe that.

It works very well, in fact. You just have to put down your agenda, and learn what's happening out in the real world that's working.

The point is that we've moved away from abortion on demand and reasonable people are starting to realize what we've learned from science and that there have to be restrictions.

Right. Or, a mother who decides she'll be depressed if she has to raise a child. That's a "medical problem" too, right?

This survey merely supports what many pro-choice people say - pro-choice doesn't equal pro-abortion. Most pro-choice people don't favor abortions as a means of birth control & don't believe abortions should be just done at a whim. But, most pro-choice people believe that ultimately it should be the woman's decision & there is at least some point in the pregnancy when abortion is acceptable, whereas pro-lifers want it to be all-out illegal.
I don't find the results of this survey surprising at all. But, thanks PBP for once again proving he doesn't really understand most pro-choicer's views on the subject.
