I asked my husband tonight: "Maybe the Rapture DID happen, and these people are still here." If they truly believed it was going to happen yesterday, they should probably be worried.

Talk to their old bosses to try and get their jobs back LOL - would you hire them back? I'd have to give it thought, certainly not a slam dunk. Already have enough ditzes.

I've been joking around about the rapture but I do feel sorry for the people that really did believe it was going to happen. What exactly do they do now?

would you hire them back? Not a chance. Why take a known moron when you can hire somebody new and have only a thirty percent chance or so of getting another moron?

I mentioned to my SIL that Camping's either senile or had this planned to make millions. He told me his wife was on board and they told their kids if they didn't believe it was scheduled on 05/21/11 then they wouldn't be going to heaven, ever. How hurtful is that?
I would hire them back, They'd make darn good employees after what happened.

TOUGH: I didn't know that. These things have happened before, but I never paid much attention.

I read in the news the other day that his church had assets of over $72 million, so apparently the prediction business is quite lucrative. They also profiled a small business that guaranteed to save raptured people's pets and take care of them after the rapture for a one time fee of $135.

So many feelings about this stuff...
I feel sorry for people who needed to believe in this, but I'm also somewhat disgusted. Anyone who needs to believe that they are living in the End Times just so that their lives will be more meaningful is... really screwed up. They need to get their own lives and their own meaning.
It's somewhat the same mentality that makes people want to go to war or get called to war. Being caught up in something that is RLY SRS BSNS and also very exciting, like the end of the world, means that they don't have to focus on their own lives or their own problems.
It's sad and pathetic. I might hire them back after some mandatory counseling so they could figure out what the hell was missing in their life that they needed nonsense like this to fill the void.

I've heard of this before and I must say, I am impressed with the brilliant business model.
I hope that those who believed in Camping's message use this as an opportunity to critically evaluate the things they are willing to believe.

I don't get it. The end of the world has been predicted forever. I can understand our primitive ancesters believing this and dancing around stones and throwing virgins into volcanos to try to save the world.. but modern man? The whole idea seems a little pagan to me so I am surprised that all these "religious" people would buy into it. Now if a scientist says that there is a meteor is headed this way and has facts to prove it, then I will believe it.

What is really sad is that I read that a lot of people put their pets to sleep becuase they did not want them to get left behind.
Now you gotta live with that decision.
People seemed to have missed the part about being wary of false prophets, if anyone is a false prophet it is Camping.

They couldn't have just asked a reprobate neighbor to look after them?

Well the pets would still be here for the apocalypse in October (this was just the rapture) if they did that.
I really don't understand the thought process, but then I never thought the world was going to end anyhow.

The prophecy came true for some of us, just in a different way than the guy's interpretation. Shortly after 6 PM, Jesus*** raptured the money of all Preakness bettors who didn't bet on the winner, Shackleford
***Jesus Castanon, the winning jockey on Shackleford.
