In related news, liberals now LOVE the Patriot Act... www.salon.com/news/politics/fbi/index.html?story=/politics/war_room/2011/05/21/patriot_act_extendedOn Thursday, Democratic and Republican congressional leaders agreed to a deal to extend key provisions of the Patriot Act for four years, a significant decision that generated little press attention or sustained political debate. Certain sections of the Patriot Act, which originally passed Congress a month after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks with near-unanimous support, have long been criticized by civil libertarians in both political parties. But the Obama administration and its allies on Capitol Hill have been eager to renew about-to-expire provisions that expanded domestic intelligence collection and wiretapping powers. As the AP put it, "The idea [of the deal] is to pass the extension with as little debate as possible to avoid a protracted and familiar argument over the expanded power the law gives to the government." A vote is expected within several days.

A few interviewed to day, Democratic legislatures, said while most of us can't wait till these regulations are removed and we are back to normal, right now is not the time, better to see in four years were we stand.
The threats that had these regulatuions put into law are still thee, nothing has changed, in fact in some cases even more so.

Good lie Ed, I still hate it. In the duh newsfile, Obama still continues Bush policies. Brother from a different mother continues to draw Bush supporter ire and this poster still doesn't know why.

I think the Patriot Act (at this time) should not be a political football for the political parties. I agree that we need it in the war against terrorism. If the pubs & srats want to fight about it, do it in the future when there isn't a clear danger to our country. Objections to it now are just laying the groundwork for further fights in the future.
In my view (& I could be wrong about it) the pubs dislike giving our government more power (me too!). On the other hand the srats like the government to have that power. Either way the government needs that power now.

Very important for the Government and those agencies involved to not abuse those laws , other wise a different view will be thought of toward them , but so far , from what I have read , they have been under control, understand their responsibilities. Well stated and a for them.

Ed not all who wanted them impeached were liberals, not in a any way, plenty from the right on this one, trampling on Constitutional rights. What group goes to bed with a copy of that document under their pillow and consider it the Holy Grail, after the Bible, the next most important. This middle to the left, understood perfectly those decisions, these laws, no problem and in the extension, also no problem. You REALLY have to work on this liberal/conservative paranoia you seem to have.

deziloooooo, I think where Ed is coming from is the old boards. Conservatives seem to be a tiny minority over there & every time President Bush did anything (including clean his finger nails it seemed) there was a huge uproar. I got the feeling that posters got up in the morning & screamed "Bush did it" to the top of their lungs just to clear out the cobwebs. I promised myself (& the other posters) that when President Obama took over I was going to do the same thing, which I did for about 3 days. After that it just seemed stupid to go on.

I must say it would also be nice if some folks would discontinue their need to tell me how I feel, what I want, and what I think.

Possible, I wasn't at the old boards when Bush was POTUS..so can claim innocence by being absent. Bush wasn't my favorite , but I believe i would have been fair..I know I wasn't hot to trot for the Iraqi invasion, but did go along with good idea on weapons of mass.... I actually got turned off when the Iraqis went nuts, started rampaging through the streets and Rumsfeld just shrugged it off, I knew we were in trouble, not enough troops, the correct ones, MP's , brigades of them...if there are such a thing, so would have taken company's backed up by grunts.

Brother from a different mother continues to draw Bush supporter ire and this poster still doesn't know why. Bush had some pretty low approval numbers by the time he left office due to a lot of his policies. I find it interesting that Obama continues many of the same policies and now all of a sudden they seem to be a good idea.

The fact is no one really likes giving back powers once they have it, plus it's a lot different running for that seat and actually sitting in it.
Things you run against and once your in there...I am sure POTUS over the decades have sat in that chair alone and mused to themselves along the lines of, as different issues were passed to him to handle,
"What a complete doophus I was to be against this yadda, yadda "
