Harold Camping Isn't The Only One Who's Been Wrong

THIS IS A STAND ALONE THREAD ABOUT THE AGW MYTH, and IS NOT ABOUT THE RAPTURE PREDICTED TONIGHT, BUT IS INSTEAD ABOUT ANOTHER FALSE TEACHING THAT HAS BEEN WIDELY ACCEPTED, THOUGH EQUALLY FALSE.

Tonight at approximately 6:00:01 p.m. in whatever time zone Harold Camping was using when he predicted the rapture / apocalypse, will be a fool. Unfortunately many on the far left will still be preaching a neo-pagan doctrine of global apocalypse due to man-caused "Climate Change" and they will continue unrepentant in their calls for more human sacrifice- from radical population control and forced abortion, to making petroleum products essential to sustain life, treat medical conditions, and prevent disease more expensive, to the banning of pesticides that results in the death of between 500,000 and 2 million people, mostly children, every year.

We feel a combination of contempt and sympathy for those he duped, and we especially worry about the effects this man's false teaching on the children of those he's duped.

However, some 30 years ago another prediction was made-- which the Nixon Presidential Library has now released. They predicted a global apocalypse as a result of warming surface temperatures by the year 2000.

A 7 degree Farenheight rise in temperature, resulting in a 10 foot rise in sea levels was predicted.

Adviser Daniel Patrick Moynihan, notable as a Democrat in the administration, urged the administration to initiate a worldwide system of monitoring carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, decades before the issue of global warming came to the public's attention.

There is widespread agreement that carbon dioxide content will rise 25 percent by 2000, Moynihan wrote in a September 1969 memo.

"This could increase the average temperature near the earth's surface by 7 degrees Fahrenheit," he wrote. "This in turn could raise the level of the sea by 10 feet. Goodbye New York. Goodbye Washington, for that matter."

Moynihan received a response in a January 26, 1970 memo from Hubert Heffner, deputy director of the administration's Office of Science and Technology. Heffner acknowledged that atmospheric temperature rise was an issue that should be looked at.

"The more I get into this, the more I find two classes of doom-sayers, with, of course, the silent majority in between," he wrote. "One group says we will turn into snow-tripping mastodons because of the atmospheric dust and the other says we will have to grow gills to survive the increased ocean level due to the temperature rise."

Heffner wrote that he would ask the Environmental Science Services Administration to look further into the issue.

Nixon established the Environmental Protection Agency and had an interest in the environment. In one memo, Moynihan noted his approval of the first Earth Day, to be held April 22, 1970.

"Clearly this is an opportunity to get the President usefully and positively involved with a large student movement," he wrote to John Ehrlichman, Nixon's adviser on domestic affairs.

Children from across Jakarta attended an Earth Day festival held Saturday by Bina Nusantara (Binus) School in Simprug, South Jakarta.

James, a first grader at an elementary school, was one of many students involved in a series of competitions held on the Binus campus.

He sat among dozens of children designing pictures to promote awareness of environmentalism. On his paper was the blue-and-green sphere of planet Earth floating in space.

"The theme is 'Going Green', that's why I'm drawing our planet."

The one-day event featured six contests, including singing, drawing, dancing and music, involving more than 100 kindergartners and elementary school students.

The school's public relations chief, Adilah, said the school wanted to raise awareness of global warming, especially among younger generations.

"We are trying to stimulate awareness on this issue among young children, in the hope they will embrace green lifestyles and become involved in efforts to preserve the environment," she said.

Another drawing contestant, Gerdan, of Global Mandiri School in Cibubur, Bogor, said he had never heard of Earth Day, but knew ways to help save the Earth.

"Bottles. Recycling used bottles can save the earth."

Gerdan's teacher, Forina, who accompanied her students to the event, said her school taught a number of ways for students to live greener lives.

"They learn that recycling is important, but also easy. In our school, we invite our students to bring used plastic bottles from their homes each week to be recycled," she said.

Well, to be fair and objective-- anthropogenic climate change has not been proven to be false. However, it has not been proven to be true, either. Because the research was weak to start with, and then subsequently tainted by tampering-- we in effect have NO evidence either way. We are at square one.

Remove any mention of Harold Camping and the predicted 6:00 PM rapture, along with changing the title of this thread and it will be a stand alone thread. Camping and The Rapture have nothing to do with what you are posting.

And your opening paragraph simply doesn't make it so just because you say so. That applies to this thread or any other thread started on this board.

When will the title of the thread stating that Bachmann supporters have threatened rape to that 16 year old girl? It's clearly false. Are you on that one yet, or are you just targeting me to annoy me?

Yes they were wrong about 2000 being the time, but like the predicted rapture if conditions do get warm enough all those things
will happen.

It seems to me that I've read that weather changes in the past HAVE been proven & occur normally. Is this weather change (if you agree there is one) normal or man made? I guess that would be one of several questions. Right now, for all we know we are in a normal weather change. Since they (weather changes) could span 100's of years (or more) & we don't have that much research done or a long enough history it would be very hard to know for sure.

The claim of threatening rape came from the article and not some made up charge by the author of the thread. Just because you think the charge is false doesn't make it false.

You may disagree with the charges in the article and consider it negative spin. Others who read your threads and posts consider much of it negative spin too. That's the nature of message boards.

to just dismiss out of hand, to me, just , even in tough times , to not put aside some $, and not just ourselves , but all nations, especially those who have some extra funds and support a scientific study using global facilities and global scientists, who really , for the most part, don't think with in the narrow confines of their home nations borders, but the over all scientific study where ever it leads, and support their scientific studies on this possible topic would be a good thing.

Oh my... some people are behind the times. You don't know that the ice pack has increased and the polar bear photo that popularized the notion the world's ice caps are melting was proven a fake? Wow! It's hard to make progress when so many people have been duped.

Remember that wonderful picture of stranded polar bears on an ice floe that were used by folks like soon-to-be-Dr. Al Gore to demonstrate how dire the man-made global warming issue is?

Well, ABC television in Australia, on a show called “Media Watch,” recently debunked the entire issue (video available here, h/t NB member dscott).

It turns out -- as NewBuster Jake Gontesky reported on March 20 -- the picture was taken in August, “when every year the fringes of the Arctic ice cap melt regardless of the wider effects of global warming.”

The photographer, Australian marine biology student Amanda Byrd, didn’t think the bears were in any jeopardy:


They did not appear to be in danger…I did not see the bears get on the ice, and I did not see them get off. I cannot say either way if they were stranded or not.

Denis Simard of Environment Canada agreed:


You have to keep in mind that the bears are not in danger at all. This is a perfect picture for climate change…you have the impression they are in the middle of the ocean and they are going to die...But they were not that far from the coast, and it was possible for them to swim...They are still alive and having fun.

Those stranded polar bears on the shrinking Arctic ice - victims of global warming - certainly tugged at the heart-strings.

That photo was published not only in the Sunday Telegraph.

It made it onto the front page of the New York Times.

And the International Herald Tribune.

It also ran in London's Daily Mail, The Times of London and Canada's Ottawa Citizen - and that's just to name a few.

All used it as evidence of global warming and the imminent demise of the polar bear.

But the photo wasn't current. It was two and a half years old.

And it wasn't snapped by Canadian environmentalists.

It was taken by an Australian marine biology student on a field trip.

And in what month did she take it?

Polar bears are good swimmers. So how did all this come about?

Photographer Amanda Byrd gave her photo to fellow cruiser, Dan Crosbie - to have a look.


“Dan Crosbie gave the image to the Canadian Ice Service, who gave the image to Environment Canada, who distributed the image to 7 media agencies including AP.”

Associated Press released the photo two and a half years after it was taken, on the day the United Nations released its major global warming report.

That's where Sydney's Sunday Telegraph got the photo, running it with a story taken from the Daily Mail as Neil Breen explains.


…the photograph represents polar bears standing on ice that’s melting. Now obviously there’s a disputed account of when that was taken now, and maybe it was taken in the Alaskan Summer when you would naturally expect ice to melt but at the time it was sent to us, Associated Press in their caption to us told us that the picture was taken of melting ice caps and to do with global warming and that it was sent to them by a Canadian ice authority and we had no reason to question it.

But Amanda Byrd didn't think her photo necessarily described whether global warming is occurring.


I take neither stand, I simply took the photos...If I released the image myself, it would have been as a striking image. Nothing more.

That's not how Al Gore saw it.

He used it in a presentation on man made global warming.


"Their habitat is melting... beautiful animals, literally being forced off the planet," Mr. Gore said, with the photo on the screen behind him. "They're in trouble, got nowhere else to go."

So let me get this straight, the Ice in the artic and antartic is NOT melting, the Polor Bears are not going to all disappear, starve to death, there is no "Global Warning " and any fears I might have for the future generations is just a worry about nothing.

{Phew }...thanks, I needed that, no more worries about the climate, Global Warming, rising Ocean Levels climate what ever...I can't tell you how releived I am.
