Help please. I have the opportunity to grab a 93 Honda Accord for around $1300 (has just under 200,000 miles). My mechanic looked at it, said I would need valve cover gaskets (47.92 +.5 hour labor), a CV boot (16.00 + 2 hour labor) and possibly a front crank seal - won't know on that one until they replace the valve cover gasket, There may also be an issue with the thermostat - the dash gauge will indicate it's overheating while it really isn't. I currently drive a 15 MPG gas hog, so this would become my daily commute vehicle. What do you car people think?

Thanks Rick. The CV boot isn't torn yet, just leaking at this point, but I will keep an eye on it (if I buy the car). I am mostly concerned about the engine temp reading. It's odd, because the gage goes all the way up as soon as I start the car. I am going to put a new thermostat sensor in tomorrow and see if that changes anything. If I do buy the car, I have one advantage - apparently the parts guy at the Honda dealership thinks I'm hot, so he doesn't mark up the parts much

LOL Rick- thanks again. I replaced the thermostat sensor (give a girl some credit , temp gage has been reading normal for 3 days. And I bought it. Now to deal with the next issue... idiot lights for brakes and abs are always on, and the lights work... off to check fuses, buy brake fluid, new brake lamps, and sensors (in that order?)
