Carrot is almost as tall as me now too and wears a bigger size shoe (men's 9!) He has all these tee shirts that he's gotten a year or more ago that he just loves but are way too small but he refuses to admit it. So he's running around with shirts on that if he lifts his arm his belly is showing. God help me if I suggest throwing the Fortnite or Mandalorian shirts in the "does not fit" box.

I had a do not fit pile, it's actually rather large between the two of them and not being able to donate for so long. However now I go to get rid of something that doesn't fit Gwen and her sister sneaks in to steal it then I find it in her drawer. So now clothes never actually leave the house they just move between drawers till the end of time.

Annoyed a little with Gwen's gymnastics studio. Gwen went through a growth spurt and her leotard now leaves very little to the imagination. Not anyone's fault it happens. My annoyance is more when I asked I was told it is too late to exchange. I just got the thing last Thursday. I found orange biker shorts that match her costume on Amazon. That will take care of the lower half. I'll need to sew or adhere a boob kercheif to the top. I suppose there are all sorts of things about the dance costume world I know nothing about but in my brain it would make sense to get costumes in so if there are major issues you have time to fix it/send them back. Kids grow randomly so wouldn't it make sense to have a buffer of some sort so we could exchange/order a new one? I'd pay for a new one I have no problems with that. IDK just one of those little things I get easily annoyed with nowadays and in a normal life would be water off the back. Gwen is almost as tall as me (which isn't saying much lol) and she can fit into my clothes. That hurts my fragile ego. I am not THAT tiny! If this studio is like that my sister had her girls enrolled in dance at, I’d be furious. I remember one conversation where she was telling me she needed to shell out $600 for dance costumes. 3 girls, 2 costumes each...that’s a ridiculous amount of $$ for a single use item. I can’t believe Gwen is that big. I remember when you were pregnant with her......I feel old.

I was unemployed at the time and so I barely scraped together the $425 for the one costume. She couldn't be in the second and was really made to feel like an outcast by the studio. After the fact my parents told me they would have paid, so would my MIL. But the studio was pressuring me to sign the paperwork right then right now despite me saying I was UE so I needed to discuss it or she wouldn't get to do ANYTHING so I charged what little I felt we could scrap together. I'm still salty about it. We switched to the studio Abby is still at which is WAY cheaper. It's like at most been $40 for a costume. About $30 for the leotard so not a huge deal just confusing to me because mine can't be the only kid that shot up/filled out in the couple months since they were measured. You'd think they would plan for that. But then I am guessing most dance/gym moms practically have their own sweat shops and can whip out/tailor costumes within seconds. Some of the stuff those women bring with them to the recitals is insane. They are spending THOUSANDS on their kids' dance. Yeah. .. no.

At the gymnastics place that DD goes too, we had the pay $50 for the leotard for some show they did. The sizing on the sheet they gave us was wrong. We weren’t the only parents that needed to switch sizes as there were MANY parents that had to do it. Fortunately, I had her try it on before we left and could switch. If she tried it on after we left, she was stuck. Last year, there was no show because of Covid and doubt there will be one this year.

When my sister cleared her house out a few years ago, she had a closet full of dance costumes. She figured she had between $8000-10,000 invested in them. I look back at it, and wonder how much of this was using their house as an ATM. I know the the $600 dance costume bill was covered from another house refinancing (I think they had run up the CC again).

Gwen was telling me some of those girls were in competition at the recital. Still I was eyeballing the make-up kits those were professional kits, they weren't your $20 on sale Ulta boxes. I told Gwen the only way I would ever spend that much on her dance is if she was the next Ginger Rogers. I am honest about my kids' talent. .. she ain't that good. I get kids enjoy competition and stuff and I am going to go ahead and assume they have the money but adding it up with some of them having 2-3 sets of this stuff I got a little queasy. And it's $2k just to START competition at the studio Abby belongs to. You pay 100% out of pocket for everything else.

C told me tonight that he's having a hard time finding interest in anything. I gotta say, he's been super agreeable which while nice has felt a bit off.
He was pretty meh on the idea of talking to the therapist. Feels like quarantine and not having anything to do is an excuse/symptom of the feelings, not the cause of the feelings. I think I'm going to push for more friends to come over. I know he wants a sleepover and I probably can't handle that, but maybe a couple friends over for an evening and try to keep that on a weekly schedule.

Between being thrifty and having no sense of fashion, he never gets rid of clothes. He still wears his junior high football championship tshirt and several other collared shirts we got as hand me downs in early high school.

Took Gwen clothes shopping she had some money saved up.
She did much better thinking it through this time. Put a lot of stuff back.
She's in an awkward spot clothes wise. The stuff that fits and is in her age group is too girly and cutey. She's not into unicorns and glitter.
She can fit in an XS teen now but a lot of the stuff out now is not remotely age appropriate.
She ended up finding a lot of anime stuff at Hot Topic and is happy with it. I chipped in $30 so she could take advantage of some sales. It'll get her through spring and well into summer.
She needs appropriate shorts for middle school but we'll cross that bridge when we get there. She can wear whatever at home.
I told her sometimes what's trendy just doesn't work or you don't like it and that's okay. It's why I've moved more into thrifting and vintage as I get older. Things will probably change again come fall.

Question for taller ladies when they were pregnant and wearing maternity clothes. Did the belly bands built into the clothing hit just below your breasts? It does to me and it somewhat drives me nuts, but I'm also only 5' 2". I'm curious with taller ladies.

Yes! I’m not tall, but also not short at 5’-6”, and the full size belly panel came up over my belly to just under my bra.

E is completely freaked out by a story C was telling about proof aliens exist. She can't even brush her teeth alone. I know it will be short lived and she gets the scaredy cat genes from me, but I expect it to be a long week.

What is a good book for a 9.5 year old girl to read about the birds and the bees, mainly the sex part? She already knows about periods, but with me being pregnant, she has more questions.

We've liked The Every Body Book by Rachele E. Simon. It's written by/for lgbtq perspective, which is great for our family, but I point it out since sometimes gay/trans topics are considered sexual in nature and could introduce additional material/questions. (Not that I think those are sexual topics or that I'm assuming anything either way about how others here approach the topic - just trying to give full disclosure).

The kids riding instructor is moving and we're so bummed. She's been such a great, positive part of the last year, and totally low key about an activity that can be anything but.
Dd had a lesson with another instructor there and liked her, but dh said it was such a different and uptight vibe. We are seeing if there are other teachers we can try and will look somewhere else if needed.

We had some rough moments yesterday, and ds is an absolute grouch this morning. Makes me regret doing a spring break for all the turmoil it causes of getting back into (a ridiculously relaxed) groove.

Today is it - my last day with the company I have been at since before I even joined the old MSN boards. Its so weird to say goodbye to everyone I've been with for the past 16 years. My manager has said nothing to me. Not one word. My supervisor sent me a nice email, my director did also, hell, even the VP sent me a note. So strange. I am kicking off tomorrow with a massage and then just chilling around the house. We've got a lot of stuff going on here - new floors coming in next week, landscaping, all kinds of fun stuff to keep me busy. The severance and pension payout (rolling to an IRA) plus H getting a promotion means I dont need to get another job anytime soon. I am so excited to see how much this changes things for me and for the family.
Cheers to new beginnings!

Let them ride the bus for a few weeks. Worked for my kids. Great idea...private school, no bus. After the dust cleared, I did tell them that they really hurt my feelings when they do that. They are both good kids so apologized, and I expect to get at least a few better days out of it. Learned thru bits and pieces that I'm likely catching the brunt of bad days when they have issues with their friends at school. I said I'd much rather get straight to talking about that than the crappy behavior.
