I like to yell and scream at 'people' while driving alone in my car... i find it cathartic. Me, too. One day DS was in the car with me when I was blasting about somebody doing something stupid on the road. He was about 6 and asked me when he could learn to drive because "I already know all the words." ROFLMAO.

Its hard for everyone right now. I'm doing good... breezing along, and I burn the pizza and bawl like a baby... not my typical reaction! It doesn't excuse him. But give him and mostly yourself a little grace right now. I like to yell and scream at 'people' while driving alone in my car... i find it cathartic. I think I need to go for a drive.
I was writing him a letter of affirmation today to give to him after his graduation party telling him about how proud I was of him when I found out he forgot to send in the application for the guaranteed high school scholarship. This is worth 4K to 12K based on your GPA/ACT and extracurriculars at the school. I've been asking him occasionally for weeks. "Have you heard anything about this?", "Are you sure you sent that in?" because I know they normally award a couple weeks before graduation. Today I made him check. He's crying. I'm crying.

Oh, no, MPL, so sorry Can he still try and send in the application? Maybe they would take it with everything going out of whack last few months?

OMG. At first I had him call but nobody was answering. I suppose they're working remotely and not at their desks, so I had him email and copy everyone. The principal, both vice-principals, the counseling office and even the president of the school begging for forgiveness. He included a link to his application and essay in Google drive and pointed out that it shows it was last edited in April before the due date. The principal emailed him back almost immediately. "Thank you Sam, but we already received your application and you will be awarded your scholarship tonight at graduation". We don't know how they got it, because he has no record of emailing it to anyone or of sharing the drive, but we're just so incredibly relieved right now. There was a big family group hug.

What a relief, MPL! Oh, cannot imagine how happy you both must feel after earlier this morning

My son definitely benefited from the crazy end of last semester. Even if he didn’t really deserve it. Call and play the covid card and ask at least...
ETA: Yay! So happy!

Whew!
Look at it this way, maybe the emotional release was cathartic for you all?

Wow, that's great news! Turmoil enough with graduation as it is. They do grow SO fast.

Now go Princess Bride on him. "Good work, good night Son lest I have to kill you in the morning."

I am sooo frustrated with our middle school grading system. Never could say I understood how they come up with the final grade. Something about a "trend" (upward or downward) rather than "average". I am tempted to instruct DD not to submit any homework or schoolwork the first 3 quarters of the year and just do it in the last, 4th quarter, as that seems to be all that matters, and all the work she put in earlier is not worth anything.

I officially have a high school graduate! I'm just bursting with pride right now. They did such a great job with the ceremony under the covid constraints and it was livestreamed so all the family members could watch. There was just all kinds of nice touches that made it special, even if it was rather unconventional. The senior band members were able to record themselves individually prior to the ceremony and the band director put all the tracks together so they got to "play" at their own graduation, the speeches were good, along with their diplomas, the students all got letters that they'd written to themselves back when they were freshman. I have no idea what was in his letter because he wouldn't let me read it, but he was fighting back tears reading it. After the ceremony was done they escorted us on a parade through the campus where all the teachers were lining the streets cheering on the grads. There is a glass walled skyway between the two main campus buildings and they'd filled the windows with balloons in their honor...we're talking thousands of them. It had to have taken forever. =

He got his scholarship letter. It wasn't as impressive as I'd hoped, but $1400/year for 4 years. $5600 is nothing to sneeze at. Right now I'm taking a breather from trying to get ready for our mini party. I had hoped it would all be outside, but storms are moving in so it will be in the garage which isn't ideal, but only 13 people including us and I have a big garage. I set up four long tables corner to corner with a big open area in the middle, so people can all sit and face one another to talk but not be closer than 8 feet or so from anyone not at their "home family" table.

Does anyone here speak rc car? C has wanted a real one and with his birthday coming up I thought this would be the time. He gave me a name of one - traxxas slash, and they're mostly way more than I was going to spend and the cheaper ones I can't tell are they really tiny? The product info doesn't even read like English is my first language.

We're cleaning out the garage and I found a box of books I read as a little kid. All of my Berenstain bears, a snorks book, Memily, Butterscotch, and dozens of little golden books. E and I should have fun with those.
But along with that is so much more that my parents have kept and still can't part with. I got my hopes up that the garage would be emptied out and I really should have known better. My dad about has the shed empty which is amazing. I'm not trying to complain and they really can keep their stuff here for as long as they need to. It was just sobering to remember how different we are in some ways.

If you keep it in training mode it will stay under 30 mph and the battery will last longer. They are fairly rugged, can go in snow and trails but there are lots of small pieces that can break. We've replaced quite a few, the parts aren't expensive but it's more of an annoyance. I'm sure the adults using these don't have parts break as often as kids.

Under 30 mph is more than fine. I saw some in the $180 range that said 1/10 or 1/16 vs the $300-$400 range but same brand. Any thoughts on those? He'd be running it up and down the street and at the paved park, not off roading or anything terribly exciting. How difficult is it to replace parts? Dh and I arent exactly mechanically inclined. I guess worst case kiddo has to figure it out on his own. Neighbor kid has one. They'd probably figure it out with help from neighbor kids parents if needed.

1/10 vs 1/16 is referencing the size, the price has more to do with features. We have a 1/10, I think that's a good size, fairly big. If it's still Traxxas, I think you are good. The good thing about that brand is you can get parts, so the car isn't just garbage if something small breaks. The cheaper one is likely 2wd instead of 4x4, maybe not the top battery. Should be fine and less prone to breaking parts keeping it on pavement. The parts aren't too bad but like you said, the neighbors can help

It's also a science experiment and shop class rolled into one if he has to help fix it. I'd love to be that neighbor! (My RV has so many fun mods).

I think I need you guys to tell me it's ok to put our crib in the dumpster. I've had it up on Craigslist for free all weekend with no responses. I don't think there are any places that will take a donation crib.
It's 11 years old and this is what happens when you hold onto stuff for too long. I still hate to throw it away, but if it's not gone by the end of today I can't see leaving it listed any longer.
