Good Morning Ladies,
So excited. Kiani has been able to roll over to her stomach, and she has been sleeping like that for the last few weeks, but she is never able to roll back to her back. Well this morning I brought her to our bed like at 6am, She rolled over to her stomach and went to sleep, I heard her waking up, when I turned around to look at her she was already on her back, wohoooo. Hopefully she continues to do that.

Baby's R Us/Toys R Us has a deal going on Babyganic wipes. Buy a box of 400 for $10 get another one FREE! That works out to less than a penny per wipe! I passed it onto DH since he is home today. If not hopefully I can snag some tomorrow. They usually clean out before I can get there.

Sam-It's good to hear everything went well with your US!! Hopefully you can get some pictures at your next one!
Frugal-Welcome! There are a few of us on here who aren't pregnant and are currently TTC or planning on TTC in the near future. I'm so sorry for your recent loss and I hope you get your BFP soon!
Red-I don't have any children yet, but I have many friends who do. For the first birthday we usually give some sort of interactive toy, but most often one they can push while walking since this is around the time (give or take) they begin to walk and become extremely mobile! Good luck!
kgb-Yay for Avery giving up the bottle, I am sure it was kind of a nerve-wracking process!
Ladyki-Yay to Kiani for rolling both ways, that's so exciting!
On the cleaning service! We may hire a cleaning service to deep clean our apartment once our lease is up. That is my least favorite thing about moving (the going back and deep cleaning the old place). It really does make me a total crab!

taz-if DH doesn't like strangers in the house, do you have an awesome MIL or mom or sis/SIL that would be willing to do a deep clean to you a gift, in lieu of a different present? Or else, tell DH you want that for a "push present" (if you're into doing that kind of thing) instead of jewelery. Just an idea. You can blame the fumes from cleaning supplies as the reason you need to have it done before the baby comes if that would help.

I wish I could hire someone to clean my house. I don't think our dogs would let anyone come in the door though - they are so protective! I had asked a girl here at work how much she pays - I was outraged when she told me $100 for 4 hours every 2 weeks!! I was like, WHAT??!! I thought that was the standard rate around here so I stopped looking into it! My DH sounds like a lot of your DH's who are procrastinators. It took DH a long time to move the stuff from his office to the basement so I could make that into the guest room, thereby turning the guest room into the nursery. I hope your DH's get their butts in gear soon! Frugal - welcome! I'm so sorry about what you went through and I hope you are able to conceive soon - lots of baby dust coming your way. kgb - that's great about Avery! I remember you telling us all about the battle of the bottle. So glad she is taking the sippy cup now no problem. Sam - I'm glad everything went well with your U/S. Too bad you didn't get a pic but looks like you have a healthy little one growing inside you!! And glad you are getting more excited about it too. It's hard to connect with something that you can't see/feel, but once you have your first U/S, and then your firsts kicks, etc you can connect and get more excited about it. Ladyk - milestones are great arent that! Yah for Kiani! First comes rolling over, then crawling... LOL! Olivia was so cute this morning. Finally got Olivia to DC today for first time all week because of the snow/ice have kept her home. She was the first baby there even thoug we didn't get there until 10:00. Right after I walked in came Emily, a baby that hasn't been there for a while but is around Olivia's age. When Olivia saw her, she got THE biggest grin on her face and started waving to her!

Red - DS got some great giftst for Christmas/birthday. Things I like that he got (and he likes), a tunnel (yeah it says 3 and up, but he loves it), a ride on toy (he's not quite ready for that), a popper (not ready for that either), the chatter phone (adores it), baby laptop. The one thing I'm not real fond of is this learning puppy dog that is totally over sensitive and the parts you touch aren't the responses you get. It is a very very annoying toy. We prefer not to have too many electronic toys, but he gets a few anyway.
Regina and Guista - Your babies are darling. Congrats.
Ins - Good Luck with work. I had planned on doing some work from home, but honestly I could not get a single thing done at home even with DH there the entire time. But I know other people who successfully worked from home immediately after having a baby. I think a lot of it has to do with the personallity of the baby and what I am realizing (even though it has taken me almost a year to admit to) is that DS is a little more high maintenance than most, but he could be worse. Fortunately, work was super slow (unfortunately it still is) while I was gone and everyone else stepped up because that is the type of people they are. They made it so that I had to do the least possible amount of work to get my job done. If you haven't already, you may want to invest in a stretchy wrap (like a Sleepy Wrap or Moby) or a ring sling. DS just was not satisfied to stay in the bouncer (asleep or awake) while I tried to work.

It creeps DH out because it will be lying on the floor and if you don't play with it for awhile it will actually start talking BY ITSELF. Scared the crap out of the dog yesterday. She was nosing ita nd managed to push the button and it started to sing. DH said she leapt three feet in the air and ran. That ALMOST makes the toy worth it.

Gardener - That is so cute about Olivia. Ben does the same thing at church when his friend P (who is 5 days younger) is there. We sit either right in front or right behind him and they break out in big smiles when they see each other and wave.

Drama - Ours will say Hug me if you don't play with her for a while. It is really funny because it is the same voice on the baby laptop, but somehow it is 10 times more annoying on the dog than the laptop.

I loved the gifts that weren't battery powered, too. We particularly like books, play clothes (we don't get baby girl dressed up too often), and creative play toys. Some of my favorites are most anything Melissa & Doug, puzzles with large pieces, and the little people farm/house/ark .... Some of those have batteries, but you can choose to leave them out if they drive you nuts.

Question for you ladies- do you guys take a DHA supplement or does your prenatal have it? What do you guys think of it? I asked a NP (didn't see my ob last time) but she didn't seem too excited about it and kind of blew me off; just wanted another opinion...
ETA- I've been trying to eat more omega-3's like salmon but I'm sure it's not enough.

I thought that the DHA was mainly for when you were BFing? My memory may be off. Here's a JAMA article that says that taking DHA didn't seem to do anything. jama.ama-assn.org/content/304/15/1675.abstractAlso, be careful about getting too much fish - many of the good omega-3 fish are also high in mercury. You can get flax seed oil caplets which are also high in omega-3.

I don't know too much about it, but there was this study from 2003 about DHA being important for brain development in the last trimester and during BFing. pediatrics.aappublications.org/cgi/content/abstract/111/1/e39But like I said, the nurse I asked seemed to think it wasn't a big deal... I figure it can't hurt but I really don't know much about it or how much to take, etc.

kristi - We've been getting our nephew Melissa & Doug stuff the past few years and he loves them. I like how it is a little different and kind of old fashion.
zbear - I never took a DHA supplement, I also don't know anyone who did or is. I did eat avocado and/or walnuts daily... both of those are a good source of omega-3s. I've never been a big fish person so I probably only ate it a couple times while pg.

zbear - my prenatals came with a DHA supplement. I took both while I was pregnant and continued to take it while I breastfed. I don't think the supplements contain mercury like they would if you were eating actual fish. I would ask your OB about what he/she thinks of taking the supplement.
drama - I went to BRU after work. They were all out of the Babyganics wipes. I was so disappointed. Thought I'd beat the rush, but guess not. I asked if they would do rainchecks but they said no.
I did get my Earth's Best Stage 2 baby food for 20 jars for $10. I had 2-$5 BRU bucks so they were free! I also got 2 big boxes of Pampers and got the $15 gift card to use whenever. Yah!!

Ladies I feel like such a bad mom. I am with Kiani all day and I had not noticed that her first tooth is already coming out. DH was the one that noticed and pointed out to me.

zbear - I take a walgreens brand prenatal that has the 2 bottles in the 60 day supply. One bottle is 60 prenatal tablets with the regular prenatal stuff (folic acid, etc actually higher folic acid than any other over the counter ones I found) and then 60 DHA gel caps.
I like this because I know they are made to go together so I am not taking too much of anything. Definately second the other poster that mentioned the amount of fish you eat. My doc said that while the omega-3s are important, many fish have so much mercury that you really need to watch how many ounces you eat a week.

momma - Unfortunately, we don't have any family in the area; however, I maybe able to talk him into the same cleaning couple that my boss uses. I figure if my boss is okay with them and lets them clean our office too every other week, then they should be good to come to our house. By the way, my boss's house is MUCH nicer than ours.

Well, I guess threatening to hire someone to clean made DH feel like doing it himself! He helped me this morning, and we cleaned the whole house in just about an hour. Granted the house is about 900 sqft, but still I just put a list on the fridge of everything that needed to be done, and he just went down the list picking things & doing them until the house was clean. I need to remember that one! He liked the marker board so he could erase the job once it was finished

sam - NICE!!! So glad your DH helped.
ladyk - don't feel bad!! You are not a bad mom! DH noticed Olivia's first tooth as well. Babies can teeth and teeth for so long so unless you are checking their gums every minute of the day it's hard to know they are in. Kiani will probably get another one really soon. Olivia's second tooth came within a few days of her first.

DS has been so whiny and grouchy all weekend. I don't know what is going on with him but it has been like the old days when he was colicky. I thought we were past that stage of his life. Ok, venting over.

Baby E is 11lbs, and 22" - at his 1 month check up.
I returned some of E's clothes, and used that to get his next size up in sleepers. He's already out grown the Gerber 0-3mo we picked up from Target, and his other 0-3 mo sleepers are fitting "just right." Mom did the actual returning of the clothes, and picked up/paid the difference on his next size.
Yay for Grandmas!

ladyki - He's only 8 months so he's not over teething yet. He's had his two bottom teeth for a long time and he got his two top teeth a few weeks ago. He didn't seem to have much of a reaction when he got the top teeth but I suppose he could be getting more that feel different.
jenna - Glad baby E had a good checkup.

Hi ladies! Baby shower at my mother-in-laws went great. Several of my guests didn't show or RSVP but due to the very late notice on the invites added to the issues with the postal service I expected that. My mom's two friends that I was really hoping to see were part of the no call no show crowd....it made me really sad but since it is likely that their invitations never arrived and I sent a second notice via facebook that they each use rarely I'm not surprised.
I knew we would get a lot of clothes and blankets, but I was surprised by how many! I didn't count a full number but I bet we got at least 50 onsies/sleepers/outfits!! We got a HUGE variety of sizes which was great.
This was the shower that would have yeilded any of our big ticket items so it looks like DH and I are on our own for our stroller, remaining carseat base (we already bought the carseat), crib mattress, swing/bouncer etc. My sister in law did get me the changing pad that fits my crib/changer combo. She had to order it online since the size isn't standard. Bless her!
I need to make a list of the items we still need like bottles, diaper bag, diaper pail, etc so DH and I can start getting one or two things a week until the baby is born.

I never got the urge to nest before Beckett showed up. Now though, it drives me crazy when the kitchen floor isn't swept and the dishes are dirty on the counters. Odd that I really only have the drive to clean the kitchen. Jenna - glad baby E had a good checkup. 11 lbs at one month - that's quite a workout for you and your DH. I have a big boy but I don't think he'll hit that mark at his checkup. Eternal - glad the shower was good, especially after all the frustrations. I know we ended up having all sorts of gifts arrive for days leading up to and then after Beckett's arrival so you might get more things (but they probably won't be the big ticket items). Do you think your work will give you a shower? We got a ton of gift cards from my work shower that we used to get some of our big items. My prenatal contains DHA. I know some of the newer research says it might not be as big a deal, but I figure that it won't hurt to have it, especially since I didn't each much fish while pregnant (and I ate a ton of fish before pergnancy). DH wants me to go to a breastfeeding group for new moms at our hospital tomorrow morning. For the most part he feeds okay, but he hit this stage where he'll eat for 5 minutes and then fall asleep and be unwakeable for 10-20 minutes, when he'll then suddenly wake up wailing with hunger. It's fun. For the last three nights now, he's become practically unconsolable around 9:30pm for about 90 minutes. Sometimes he'll be soothed by the paci, sometimes not (and I used to be vehemently anti-paci - hah!). I'm hoping this isn't the start of colic. He'll be 3 weeks on Tuesday.

Eternal - glad to hear the shower went well! Before you go buy your big-ticket items, make sure they are on your registry. Some stores will give you a discount if you are buying the things that you have not received yet.
Yogii - I hope the little guy calms down soon for you. Maybe he's just having some off-days.
