I have a pay as you go phone (AT& T), the guy at the radio shack that sold it to me said I can still get ringtones from the web (no web access on phone, but he said go to the website from a computer) and they (ringtone company) can send a SMS (may be wrong abreviation) message to my phone and it will automatically load the ring tone.
Does this sound correct?
If so recommend and websites? (never did this so not sure what sites are lefit or not)
Also can I expect dopey junk texts and stuff on my phone if I do this (similar to jun email?)
This would be my first time buying ring tones
Thanks for any info

I used to use PhoneZoo when I did not have a smartphone. Just go to their website, register, search for the tone you want, and it texts the tone to your phone for free.
I did find the choice of tones to be somewhat limited, but it fit my needs.

I've never bought ring tones myself, but if your phone has a memory card you can download something to that (I did favorite songs from mp3 files I had from copying my CDs) and then save it as a ringtone. Just thought I'd mention it in case it proves to be useful.

Ringtones are annoying for me. Especially if you have a cheapass phone and poor speakers in it. They sound like crap.
Just use what AT&T offers and be happy with it. Little by little with all these Smartphones and Ringtones, they will eventually be coming to your phone with a virus that will make your life more difficult all because you had to have some ringtone added to your phone.
Be careful there. Read the fine print on the ringtone sites. A friend of mine was being billed 12 per month for one year because he signed up after downloading that stupid ringtone he thought was only .99 cents.

When I want them, I make my own. I use Myxer.com and its free. I just upload the song I want to use, designate the portion of it and they send it to either my computer or as a text to the phone.

It depends on what type of tone you are looking for. If it is music, a lot of artists sites now offer the tones and will send them as texts. TV theme related do the same thing. I got a TV theme for my mom from the network site, and she had never issues with getting spam texts.

I hate the ring tones of some loud music. They're really annoying, and to me, they announce to the world that they are inconsiderate of others.
I feel the same way about the hold tunes. You know, the "Please enjoy the music while I contact your party". Those. I usually DON'T enjoy the music.

Funny.. I read article some time ago talking about things you should stop buying when you turn 30. One of them was ringtones...video games...it's something that 20 year olds do. But hey, each to its own I guess.

But hey, each to its own I guess. I don't buy/create them like I used to and that's in part 1) because of my age making me feel a little like one of those women who acts/tries to look like she's still in her 20's; 2)I found a ringtone I love. I do still have a couple ringtones that I designated to my kids' numbers so I would know who was calling but other than that, I use my Dropkick Murphys' for people I know and a standard tone for all others.

My son sent the ringtone from his phone to mine - free. It is the theme from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Says a lot about the two of us doesn't it But maybe you can have someone who can do the same for you.

I'm 59 and I like ring tones. My provider sells ring tones and I've also used myxer.com. I like them by my favorite artist and most sites don't have them.
