We went and saw Harry Potter and I really felt cheated by the fact that it just cut off in the middle with no attempt at an ending. There were better spots in the book where they could have split it into two parts and still had a moving with a semi-ending.

My 12 year old son and DH loved Yogi Bear. I was with the other son at the most recent Narnia movie... Voyage of the Dawn Treader which we enjoyed.

Tron both times HOW did you sit through that twice? It was sooooo bad... and the 8 minutes of good effects didn't come close to making the ticket worth it... I told you, I'm a total nerd for glitzy, flashy, techo sci-fi. I mean, I went into it knowing that it was going to be cheesy with terrible dialogue. Plus, the sound track was awesome. Now, a movie like True Grit, to me, was not at all worth the price of admission. I would have been just as happy watching it on our 27" TV in the living room.

I need to figure out the best way of getting Nexflix streaming to my TV. My current Bluray player doesn't support it, I'm thinking the best is likely but a new Bluray that supports Netflix since the prices have dropped so much.

I'm almost afraid to admit it, but i actually bought a second wii when they were on sale over the holiday, we've been streaming so much netflix through the wii... and i should actually be cutting down on screen time, but enabling more, but now if someone wants to play a game and someone wants to watch a movie, they can... i've cut down on the # of dvds we get, because we stream more than watch dvds any more... and i can play fit whenever i want... no arguing with the kids... so... maybe i'll actually do that some time ...

Actually spent money Christmas break to see Tangled. Boys really liked it, but older son was very upset that a scene that was in a Tinkerbell preview was not in the movie. How ironic. But Tangled maybe had one preview, much to my disappointment.

What bugs me, is that there are always 15-20 minutes of trailers, except the one time I'm running late and think "Oh, no big deal, there will be 15 minutes of trailers." then there are only 10 and I miss the first 5 minutes of the movie!

Wow -- my mom and I both LOVED the latest HP movie. And as soon as the final scene started we both knew that Part 1 was ending. But to be fair, neither of us have re-read Book 7, and didn't remember quite a few things from the book. I was thinking of reading the entire series again before Part 2 comes out. I loved it too!! I already re-read the whole series. There were too many moments during the movie that I was like "Did that happen in the book?" Apparently, I read the last two books super fast. I didn't remember 1/2 the stuff that happened, LOL. Can't wait until the last movie!!!

DF and I always buy our movie tickets from costco. We get two tickets for about $16. The 3d surcharge still hurts and we are very judicious about what we agree to see in 3D.
Tangled was kind of cute. I liked the visuals.
Black Swan was very twisted and dark. It is thrilling and a tad disturbing, and I was on the edge of my seat a few times. It definitely stands out.
I do want to see Tron, but will probably rent it. We almost paid for Little Fockers, but I'm glad we stopped ourselves. So Yogi was a waste huh? I wonder what the new Smurfs movie will bring.

I want to see Black Swan so bad! My boss told me this morning that The King's Speech was very good, so I want to see that as well. BF saw Tron in 3D last week with his hetero life partner and he really liked it. Aside from the dude abiding, I think it looks like a yawn fest. One thing I do know about going to the movies, wait to go to the bar until after. Nothing like missing half the movie because you broke the seal.

I'm too cheap to see movies in 3D. I did see Tron a couple of weeks ago, except for digitzing Jeff Bridges & Bruce Boxleitner; I thought the effects were pretty good. The last movie before that, that I saw in the theater was Avatar.

I never plan on sitting down at the "start time" that is listed unless I want to view previews. Where I live, there are so many theaters that finding a seat is easy, no matter when you show up.

Your time management skills must rock like crazy if 15 minutes spent not seeing a movie is so distribing to you. I'm pretty busy and am pretty much working towards completion of a task all the time - but I waste far more than 15 minutes a day doing things that add absolutely no value. When we do go to the movies, just sitting in the cushy seats for 15 minutes - even if I'm watching the candy sing and dance - I find it pretty darn relaxing. I can't think of what else I could possibly do during that 15 minutes that would be so drastically better.
If wasting that time really bothers you - just make out with your husband until the movie starts. That would be efficient use of time.

For one-it is the PRINCIPLE, these trailer times have grown longer and longer. Part of the reason that I PAY for a movie is to avoid all the commercials and things that I can see when I watch "regular" TV.
For two-the start time for the movie should be the start time of the movie, if trailers X amount of time long are included they should provide that info in advance, or make a "standard" trailer time (i.e. all trailers are ALWAYS 15 minutes or whatever).
For three- my time management skills do not "rock" (although they are good), but I highly value my free time and would rather sit on my couch (much more comfy) at home and watch commecials on my TV vs. in a theater.

My complaint is baseball. talk about wasting my time! Sheesh - those dudes sit around and pick their butt for 30% of the "game time" - which is now nearly approaching 9 hours. GOod thing, because ticket prices are crazy!

I liked True Grit. Seeing it on 'the big screen' probably didn't add tremendously, so you could wait for dvd, but i'd recommend... I thought all of the actors did a great job in their roles, and liked how Coen brothers put it together, language... etc...
Husband and i always say that you can tell we're the only ones in the theater who don't have TV, cause we laugh at the 1-2 actual commercials they play before the movies... we're the only ones who havn't seen them before... now that's a practice i hope they don't make longer... 1-2 is PLENTY... but i don't mind previews at all... love them...
thyme... you're making me lol...

I'm with the OP. We saw True Grit a couple weeks ago and sat through 15 minutes of previews and COMMERCIALS. If I wanted commercials, I'd watch TV. I'm going to date myself here, but I miss the old days when they showed a few minutes of cartoons and then maybe one movie preview and NO commercials. This is why anymore I prefer to rent DVDs to watch at home.
