This show seems to scare pregnant women into thinking they are totally unprepared and are going to need future services. Gold Mind. They should have a "pregnant and barefoot" to show how you can have a baby without guilt of not knowing everything and not having a perfectly coordinated nursery. Sickening & Fascinating. Have you seen the show?

Shows with "plots" like this make me glad I don't have cable... And to think I used *gasp* hand me downs for a lot of my son's stuff. He did have some cute matching crib sets though, all made by gramma ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I watched about 30 min of this show.....and that's 30 minutes of my life I'll never get back.
While some women appeared to be unprepared (case I saw was the woman who had put on 80 lbs and had gestational diabetes - yet had not changed her eating habits). The rest of the women seem to be interested in doing things that send their pregnancy over the top - like have Lord Wedgwood be their child's godfather and how to go about asking him.
Not gonna watch it again.

First will say I haven't seen show. But I was dumb as a red brick when my son was born. I never baby sat and my son was the first infant I had ever held. Didn't have 5,000 books telling me what to do - back in the dark ages you just used COMMON SENSE, talked to pediatrician and I had neighbors who all had two or three kids. I feel sorry for new mother's today. Oh and in spite of my total stupidity my son grew up without any major mishaps - well except the time I dropped him on his head - but that is another story. ![](http://boards.msn.com/Themes/default/emoticons/red_smile.gif)

Only bits I have seen are when the show is made fun of on The Soup. The focus group couple cracked me up. If you got that much money spend it on what you want, I guess. ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) I spent way more time than I should have trying to figure out what a "decorative" name was for a boy because that was one of their rules "no decorative names". ![](http://boards.msn.com/Themes/default/emoticons/confused_smile.gif)

I saw the same episode that mich1 mentioned. With the woman who had GD and gained 80 lbs, she kept trying to blame fertility drugs and that all the fatting food was her soon-to-be-DH's. Really! Was she born yesterday? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) So far, I've only gained 13 pounds with my pregnancy and still realize I have more to go, but I seriously doubt I will be gaining anything close to what she had gained. Regarding the Lord Wedgwood woman, I thought she was nuts! I think she asked more for the perks than because she geniuing wanted him to do it. ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) Like mich1, I'm not watching it again either.

Well I watched the one where the couple had a focus group and estravagent dinner party to toss out baby names to see what the focus group thought and what their friends thought. Guess what? The name THAT NOONE liked is what they named their child.

I saw the SNL skit where they made fun of the ladies accent, and then I saw 5 minutes of the show, and I couldn't handle the way she spoke - it really does sound like every morning her tongue is stung by a thousand bees. So, I turned it. The 5 minutes I did see was where she was saying the home was completely unprepared for children because they had decorative knives and skulls.
Ummm - babies don't even crawl for >6 months. At that time, you are like everyone else and realize that you have a knife sitting on the table and you should probably move it. You don't have to do that the day you get pregnant. The guys reaction was something akin to "F*** off." Yeah!

I saw the previews and made it a point not to watch it. I'm just sick of all the shows about the "new money" people who have to be extra about everything. I agree with the person who said people don't have common sense anymore. Taz, I've gained 17 lbs so far. I hope not to go over 30. DH's aunt gained 50 lbs when she was pregnant with his cousin... 50? Really? ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png)

Moneyjenny - When are you due? I thought it was around the time I am (August 3rd). I hope not to go over 30 either. I would be shocked with 50 too! I was watching an episode of Intervention a little awhile ago. The subject's former girlfriend had gained 70 lbs when she was pregnant with what he thought was his daughter (turns out she wasn't his). Needless to say, they were both drug users (don't remember if during the pregnancy too or not), but she evidently quickly lost the 70 pounds after birth.

Meh - what is there to do - a bassinet, a car seat and a pack of diapers and you are 90% there.

New mothers used to have their own mother show them how to handle the newborn and help them a week or two or longer.
Mom was born at her aunt's house 4lbs2oz. She was her mother's first but she had babysat and had younger siblings. She probably didn't know how to deal with a newborn but she had family to show her. The aunt sewed mom's first dress from a salt sack because the baby clothes were too big. The aunt was a midwife in the bigger town so grandma stayed with her while waiting for the baby. They didn't have hospitals in those towns and home births were common in 1926.

In many situations Grandma still does come to help for a week or two. My Mom lives 20 minutes away and would come by every day for a couple of weeks. Of course, she was out of town when my first was born, but she sent my sister by to check on me.
I didn't have much infant experience, but my kids were pretty easy, so I didn't have too many problems.

Taz, Moneyjenny, I'm due just a few days before both of you, on July 29th. I'll be 29 weeks this Friday. DS's birthday is August 7th. With my first, I had very little morning sickness and ate lots of ice cream at the end and gained 40 lbs. With DD, I was sick all the time and started out with 10 lbs of leftover pregnancy weight and gained about 25 lbs. So far with this pregnancy, I've been eating non stop, and I've gained about 17 lbs so far, but we haven't hit the summer months yet when I go crazy on the smoothies and ice cream ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

Then I gained 50 lbs, which is impressive considering I upchucked until the day I gave birth. ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) Water/weight gain in the last trimester can be brutal. I was gaining and losing 5 lbs in a day from fluid. The water weight sheds quick though. I was at my pre-pregnancy weight 6 weeks after birth.

I had a baby on March 1st. This show makes me disgusted, but strangely amused by these crazy ladies. I gained 10 pounds my entire pregnancy, DS weighed 6 lbs, 13 oz, and I was back to pre-pregnancy weight by 8 days post partum. I only bought maternity pants, but didn't really need special tops, other than nursing bras.

That isn't normal, and it isn't recommended. I'm glad everything turned out for you, but I wouldn't go around telling people that 10 pounds is all that is necessary, unless you are a doctor and you have been researching and studying the results of massive amounts of data. I agree that a lot of women are stupid about gaining too much weight - but gaining very little isn't something to be applauded either.

thyme - agreed. I gained the weight that was healthy for ME and MY BABY. By all accounts, DS is perfectly healthy. I am certainly not prescribing advice for others to gain just 10 pounds. I had no swelling, water retention, etc. that a lot of other women experience in their pregnancies that can attribute to more weight gain.

I'm due on June 9th and have gained 40 lbs at 36 weeks ![](http://boards.msn.com/Themes/default/emoticons/tongue_smile.gif) Its more than I had hoped for but the water retention and swelling is killing me. I'm counting down the days until I can wear my normal shoes again. The cravings for ice cream aren't helping me either lol.
