NEW YORK (Reuters) – A New York City police officer accused of raping a woman testified on Tuesday that he told her later he wore a condom only because he felt threatened when she confronted him. Kenneth Moreno, 43, and his partner, Franklin Mata, 29, face charges of rape, burglary and misconduct stemming from the December 2008 incident involving a fashion executive, then 29. Prosecutors say Moreno and Mata responded to a 911 call from a cab driver who said his fare was too drunk to get out of his taxi, and the pair escorted the woman to her apartment. The two officers left but returned a few hours later in response to a 911 call, which Moreno has admitted he faked, and returned twice after that. They were arrested in April 2009 after the victim secretly taped a conversation -- using a watch equipped with a microphone -- with Moreno in which he acknowledges having worn a condom but insists nothing happened. Moreno, testifying on Tuesday, said he felt threatened when the victim met up with him outside his police station and feared she would go inside and tell his superiors. "She started hitting me with all these accusations and hard questions," he said. "I was ready to tell her whatever she wanted to hear." On Monday, Moreno acknowledged making the fake 911 call, saying he did so in order that he and his fellow officer could return to the victim's apartment. He testified he was trying to help the victim because he had abused alcohol after being upset over the September 11, 2001 attacks and a custody battle over his daughter. He admitted getting into bed with the victim but denied raping her. The officers face up to 25 years in prison if convicted news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20110510/us_nm/us_crime_rape_police

Just out of curiosity, haven't we already had the discussion about multiple threads on the same subject? It also sounds like the incidents you mentioned aren't being accepted and being looked into...

True, but this represents an opportunity to portray a police officer in a bad light, always a plus for liberals, and an opportunity never to be missed...this also applies to military personnel, clergy (except muslim) and conservative radio entertainers...

There are creepy people in all professions police officiers included. Being outraged or unhappy about the creepy ones has nothing to do with the good ones.

This thread was created to show that the slut-walk thread was valid in steff's eyes. IMO
I hope the two officer's if convicted serve hard time, I say if because, in our country you are innocent until proven guilty.

I don't have an "auto-defend" setting for police officers. The vast majority do a fine job, but it only takes a few bad apples to spoil the barrel.

The problem I have with threads like this, and there are many, is that there is truly nothing to discuss. There is not enough information to discuss with an honesty guilt or innocence. No one is going to defend the cops for only "being men" or whatever. Nor will anyone condemn the woman for being drunk. There just anywhere to go with discussion, except into the gutter of personal attacks of people posting.

That's because all it is is an attempt to defame a police officer/authority figure, something that works like catnip for liberals...undoubtedly, if the officer in question were not a white male, this story would not have been posted...

the discussions about rape victims has been going on in abortion threads. I thought it might be a better idea to separate the two topics. and for those assuming they know why I did or didn't start the thread or what my 'intent' was, can you tell me what I'm also thinking right now? didn't think so. How does the OP lead to a discussion of "rape victims"?

The cop is guilty. The only reason he's not in jail is that he's a cop. If he was some kid from the 'hood, he'd already be locked up.

And the worst part? She wasn't the only one, and this cop wasn't acting alone. This was a pattern of behavior-- none of this was spur of the moment, it's all part of a scheme that has been developed over months, and maybe years with 3, 4, 12, maybe 50 or 100's of victims...

There is no rational basis for this. at least not based off the OP's story. If you have other evidence to offer, I would appreciate looking at it. ******DISCLAIMER****** ****** I do not condone said actions of the people portrayed in the OP's story, I do support the rule of law. The emotional response is that these men need to have their testicles removed forcibly with pliers, yet, without full disclosure, either court transcripts or a plea agreement, law states innocent until proven guilty. ******
