someone should tell that to the officer who made the statement about what women wear.....and I believe that is what the women organizing the slutwalk are doing....

Maybe these protesters could do something useful while walking like picking up trash. I don't see anything useful happening while protesting about a cop in Toronto.

Based on what I've seen walking around in a lot of places, many girls and women don't need any more encouragement to dress like sluts, they were doing just fine before it became a "cause"...

I guess it's the changing attitudes. I always thought that being called "slut" was a bad thing. My wife is a bit younger than I am. When she comes in I'll call her a slut & see which generation she identified with. If I get a kiss then she will be more with the younger generation. If I don't get a kiss I'm betting I'll get a knee in the, well you know. I better make some ice just in case.

maybe you should organize a trash pickup and allow the women who want to march in this to stand up for what they believe in without having to do something to make it "okay" for you....

No means no, and we should NEVER blame the victim. However, what you have is a law enforcement officer on a college campus for the express purpose of training women not to be victims of rape. Would you say that ONE of the ways would be to stay in well lit areas? Would you say that never walking home alone is a good idea? Would you say that staying out of bad neighborhoods makes sense? But you wouldn't say, "Don't dress like a target" is a completely invalid point?

If you would, you're an idiot. I'm just going to come out and call it like I see it-- the feminist idea that a woman "should" be safe no matter what she has on, and we "never blame the vicitim" are both great in a world where what "should be" is what is. But it's not. The world isn't this way.

I see nothing wrong with telling women to at least give SOME thought to not dressing like a slut-- not dressing like a neon sign that reads: I want sex. All the psychobabble about rape not being about sex aside, the odds are fairly high that if you're going to be raped, it's going to be someone you know that assaults you. And I'm sure a law enforcement officer who sees the victims knows that the signals you send make at least SOME difference.

And I think we can separate that FACT from the FACT that it's still not the fault of the victim. Liberals especially have keenly developed minds capable of grasping the nuances, right?

So, if these women want to go out and act a fool and be all offended- fine. It just doesn't offer much help in rape prevention.

Like I said in another thread- rape happens. It's a terrible thing, and I'm going to raise my daughter to understand that there's nothing she can do to prevent rape from happening, but she can prevent it happening to HER.

First off I'll say that there is never a valid excuse for raping a woman (or for that matter hitting one). It doesn't matter how they are dressed or for that matter any other factor....no excuse what so ever.

I will say that (& this is NOT in relation to the rape part of this but the slut part) I have seen some young ladies that I felt were very inappropriately dressed. I think that demeans both themselves & women in general. I do wonder if possibly they have very low self esteem that might cause them (mentally) to confuse male attraction with a validation of their value? Now it's just the way that I look at it but it seems to me that some types of clothing do scream I'm cheap & I'm easy.

The absolute worst offenders that I've seen this from are usually young high school girls (jr & sr age) & young college students. Every now & then I'll see one & to be honest my first thought was what kind of mother do they have? Did mom not explain basic stuff like makeup, how short a dress can be before it's considered a belt, & of course what young guys are like?
