I hope the simpletons in charge here read this. The Sacramento area remains the #1 potentially worst flood disaster area in the entire US.

Any farmers who wind up losing a year's worth of crops will likely be forced out of the business, since insurance would not cover their losses adequately, he said.
I would think that most of the farmers wouldn't have crop insurance because of cost. The insurance companies know that historically this flood happens pretty often. They generally don't insure against something that there is a good probability that it could happen.

This flooding will effect everyone that isn't even living in any of these states or near the river.
Food prices are expected to go sky-high over this, and if the oil refinery places down south in Louisiana and New Orleans areas, even though gas prices are beginning to drop, this could (and probably will) give the oil industry another reason to jack up the prices on gas.

Seeing the pictures of the impacted areas brings one close to tears. Those poor people! I'm just hoping the rain stops and things don't get worse.

Your too late. This morning $3.879 a gallon, down from $4.099 last Saturday This afternoon, $4.259 per gallon.

Mad Dawg Wiccan, I hope you have flood insurance! I'm a renter and don't need it. I'm also on the Eastern edge of the valley, on the toes of the foothills at the 200' elevation level. The biggest concern here is how levee breaks could contaminate fresh water drinking supplies for millions of people with brackish water from the Delta.

This is what our downtown (Memphis), the Mississippi and Arkansas looked like early this morning. Most of the flooding here in Memphis hit homes and businesses (on the Tennessee side) in low lying areas, along the river, and around the rivers, streams and bayous in Memphis that drain into the Mississippi. Those areas cannot drain into the Mississippi so they are backed up and also causing some flooding. The rest of the city of Memphis, including downtown, is fine. On the other side of the river, where you can see the beginning/tops of trees, that is Arkansas. And the water covering everything to the top of the picture is flooded farm land and other land usage. The river is normally 1/2 mile wide here at Memphis. With the flooding, the river is now three miles wide. The bridge and highway in the picture is I-40 heading west.
