Hard on the heels of getting caught telling gun dealers to go ahead and sell guns to Mexican drug cartels, the BATFE has opened up a new front. If they can't keep it secret that they encourage selling guns to Mexican drug dealers they can at least make it more difficult for Americans to have them. The new Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE) “rule” would require gun stores to report to the federal government the names of people who purchase more than one rifle in a week.
This new reporting requirement is nothing less than firearm registration in all but name.
The new BATFE rule change has been in place since January. It was trumpeted as a supposed “solution” to the problem with Mexican gun runners on the Southern border, but common sense tells us otherwise.
The BATFE’s exact rule states that anyone who purchases more than one rifle that is semi-automatic, larger than .22 caliber, and capable of using detachable magazines within five business days of each other, must be reported.
Although the BATFE claims that this requirement only applies to states along the southern border, the actual published rule has no geographic limitation.
That means they will be tracking gun purchases nationwide. www.ammoland.com/2011/05/05/feds-tracking-gun-purchases/

Not just the southern border, unless I am badly informed, the largest gun shoots in the world are held every year on the banks of Lake Erie in Ohio. Camp Perry is the name, and it's located at Port Clinton, between Sandusky and Toledo.

Well, steff. You can rest easy, because maybe it'll go like the war on drugs. You know how that is working out, don't you? And oh yeah. All the child molesters have to put their names and pictures in the papers, too. That one has REALLY cut down on clild molestation, hasn't it?

It's a stupid rule. All legal gun sales are already reported to the DOJ when they run the background check.

Outside of a licensed gun dealer, what percentage of people out of a million would buy more than one gun at a time anyway? A very low percentage I would bet. Secondly if I wanted to buy more than one rifle at a time I would just go to a flea market and buy what I wanted and other than me and the seller no one would know. But the odds of me doing that or any other person would be very slim to not at all.

so where does it say other than registering that they are "after your guns"? and haven't they been "after your guns" supposedly for like the past 10 years? They haven't come and taken them yet.... but still the running around like a chicken screaming "they're coming to take our guns they're coming to take our guns!" OMG OMG OMG they'll take your guns and put you in those "camps" they have around the country...... Read up on your history: almost every single registration of firearms was followed up with by a confiscation. It happened in Canada not too long ago. Anyway, why register your firearms? Why does the government need to know what a law abiding citizen owns? Criminals aren't going to register their firearms (here's a hint: they break the law) so it's only useful if the government wants to take your weapons as they have historically done.' Also, if you lived in New Orleans, you would know that the military used records to confiscate legal firearms from law abiding citizens which left them vulnerable to looters. Our own governmnet has a history of such unconstitutional acts and you support them? Wow.
