A brand new forum means new opportunities, and a chance for a whole new culture. It also means moderator positions may be available to some new people.
I certainly believe that many who held the position on the old board should inherit it here. Will there also be opportunities for other members to hold those positions?

I had volunteered previously -- moonbeam said that, when it was clear there would be a need for moderators she would put it up to a vote of the members.

A popularity contest I always lose those. Seriously though, as "bundle's" suckage becomes obvious, I can see a lot of people coming here. Jan 7th will be here before we know it, and then MSN boards will be gone.

I am at a disadvantage in some ways because i've always stuck to EE. So i know that I can't effectively choose who would make good mods for the various boards.
That's why I think the most fair and impartial thing that could be done is to start a thread in each area where people can say they're interested. then, after a few days, make polls on each board and vote. you all know much better who the level headed people are, and who is knowledgeable in the different arenas. We can also do time limits so that no one gets burnt out. Do you think that sounds reasonable?

Except for Rovo and Mod E, the other MSN mods should be excluded.

Moon, I was thinking that we should have a time limit from the beginning. that way it will be fair and the prison who acts as moderator won't have to worry about it being a huge responsibility for long. Also they might not be a tyrant as they know they won't always have special mod powers.

Well, my offense threshold is pretty high, so I'd make a terrible mod. I'd let everything slide.

A vote huh?
I'm officially nominating WCP to be a mod at YM. I'll also volunteer to run his campaign, unless he's got somebody better in mind.
This is going to be good!

I for one am glad I will be able to follow the conversations and dialogue that has come out of so many posts. I have spent hours doing research on hundreds of posts. I especially like it when the person making the post can substantiate it with a link that I can read and again research. I used to believe in our government. That was right up until Bush became President. I found him so repulsive. He was a lousy President and I could not believe that the Republicans had put him back in office for another 4 years. Even I could see things happening that he was not dealing with and I am limited to a few Newspapers and the internet. My feelings now are if they were in office, Vote them out. No one deserves a second chance to screw me.. Best to all and mostly to the person responsible for making this message board available to the msn posters. I have smurfed in here under a new name. I made about 4 posts on the old board.

Having an initial time limit for our mods might be a good idea in case after one gets their super powers they don't moderate as the voters expected.
I think any moderator should be able to beg for a new moderator to be voted in if it becomes too much work for them.

I'm sure it would also be possible to do a recall election on any mods who were abusing their authority

I had a though, chastize me if I am out of bounds, however , the wrong moderator on a new site could really be a discouraging thing here, and I had a thought. As people put their names up for consideration, and since you are thinking of having a open vote for those people, cliques are active, there may also be issues, yet to air them in public is just opeining up a can of worms, as one can see by one such little back and forth that has already been made public, anf then you who are not familier with the people , are like caught in the middle. Is there a way, say R mail address, that if some one sees a possible issue , instead of airing in public , thus more back and forth which few want, except for the paticipants , and even them, being called to attention like, embarressing, a poster can communicate to you privatly, their concerns. Naturally even on those type communications you have to be wary but at lest you would be aware and as you over see how things are going, you might see that what was communicated to you was real and then you could do what ever you felt appropriate. Communicate witht the individual or any other action you feel appropriate as you did with one who just did not get it..zap, taken care of , next. Possible this is more then you bargained for , thinking it was all combiya{however it is spelled} but in "Politics/Markets", unlike EE, there were issues between some posters, and for some they really are into taking things personal, just the way it is/was. Hopefully here it will be a new beginning but till then...

Yes dezi, we have a private message function here that is just right for that sort of thing. On the left side of every post there is a little envelope icon that will open up a private message to that person.
there's also a 'report to Mod' link at the bottom of every post, so things can be brought to our attention that way as well.
is this more than i bargained for? we'll see! lol.

One thing I have ALWAYS loved about every other forum I've been a part of is the private message function. You can discuss things in private without having to cough up your e-mail address. You can also block posters from PM'ing you. Sweet deal, and that is one of the top two things I wish the MSN boards had offered (that and a better search).

Other than that we should vote based on how many nice shoes they own.

I agree that it is time for new mods. It got a little crazy with the abuse of power on the old boards. New year, new boards, new start.
