I have nothing against moderating but editting people's words is a different thing.
What is the policy here about editting people's posts?

No, no one had the ability to edit something posted under your id.

No, no one had the ability to edit something posted under your id. Oh I see, someone edited the original post and not a quote? I agree, that is a different story.

Later, can you pm me with the specifics of what was edited?
editing should only be done for just cause...

I agree he's a jerk, but it becomes a "where do you draw the line" thing. You can ban, you can delete, but you should not be able to put words in people's mouth. Not anyone's.

All I know that was done for sure was Sanity changing whatshisface's name. I just realised you have the editting ability here and I was wondering what your policy is.

I think the only edit done was on the profane Nickname he was using - not the content of the message itself.

if there is something that is against the CoC and they do not do so themselves when asked then yes. i believe we should be allowed to edit.. personally, i would also add a note that says i did edit and why

I don't think that is the right way to go moonbeam. Delete it but don't put words in someone's mouth.

so you would rather an entire post be deleted rather that only removing the part that was against the CoC?
that's all I would do. i would not re-phrase other than to remove the offensive portion.

YES! I would rather you delete my whole post rather than speak in my name. Anything in this box is assumed to be me speaking. I want that to actually be true.

If the message is relevant to the discussion and can still remain intact minus any profanity that was removed, then it shouldn't have to be completely deleted, IMHO.

That could change the meaning. Remember how the meaning was changed on posts when all the emoticons were being changed? And that was minor. Just delete it.

I do not think it is fair for anyone's post to be thrown away just because some malicious jerk cannot communicate responsibly. The only other option would be to delete both the originating offensive post and also the reply to that post.....

In my post above #22 you will now see a box which says last edit today at 10:52 by sanityjones. This is because I edited my post with the addition of periods at the end.

The qoute is coming from the originator

Since Moonbeams The Administrator, it's really her call at the end of the day how things will be handled - and she's still working out some of the wrinkles before everything's written in stone as to what steps will taken by moderators in different situations. As far as I understand it, the rules aren't going to be a carbon-copy of how msn did things.

Moonbeam and Laterbloomer. Unless the problem can be fixed, if we delete a post/reply, the next post/reply takes over that reply number. On the old board if a post was deleted, the posting number remained with a message saying post was deleted.
That is not the case with this program. Example: Latebloomer has reply #2, and 'Mary' has reply #3. I delete latebloomer's reply #2 for content. Once refreshed, Mary is now reply #2.
Instead of deleting the whole post, I deleted the offensive contents within the post and added the post had been deleted and signed my name.
Now if the contents within a post can be deleted, without deleted the reply # itself, that would be terrific.
