another quiz on political viewpoints, thought I'd share. people-press.org/typology/quiz/the types defined: * Staunch Conservatives * Main Street Republicans * Libertarians * Disaffecteds * Post-Moderns * New Coalition Democrats * Hard-Pressed Democrats * Solid Liberals * Bystanders along with 13% of the population, I'm classified as a Post-Modern. What They Believe * Generally supportive of government, though more conservative on race policies and the safety net * Strongly supportive of regulation and environmental protection * Most (56%) say Wall Street helps the economy more than it hurts * Very liberal on social issues, including same-sex marriage * One of the least religious groups: nearly a third are unaffiliated with any religious tradition * Favor the use of diplomacy rather than force Who They Are * The youngest of the typology groups: 32% under age 30 * A majority are non-Hispanic white and have at least some college experience * Half live in either the Northeast or the West * A majority (58%) live in the suburbs * 63% use social networking * One-in-five regularly listen to NPR; 14% regularly watch The Daily Show I'd say that's mostly right, I plan to check out the other profiles to see what the nuances are. where do YOU fall along the spectrum?

Libertarians
9% of the public
What They Believe •Economically very conservative but moderate to liberal on social issues •Highly critical of government •Strongly pro-business •Accepting of homosexuality •Less religious than the average American •Moderate views about immigrants compared to other GOP-oriented groups
Who They Are •Strong Republican-orientation, though a majority identify as independents •Affluent: 39% have incomes of $75,000 or more •Two-thirds are male •85% are non-Hispanic whites •About seven-in-ten (71%) have attended college •About half as likely as the two strongest GOP groups to attend church weekly •56% use social networking sites •36% trade stocks
Every time I have done these it comes out this way.

Libertarian. Don't like some of the questions, though. 3 of them I would have chosen a different answer.

I didn't like a couple questions, either. I just figure that enough of the bullets are spot on for me, that it might hold for others, and we can all see where others are coming from in certain discussions *cough* arguments.

I figured by now, it's pretty clear I'm a liberal.....lol yup, I didn't expect any different from you. I think there are a few posters that might not have expected what I got for a result though.

I'm ranked as "Main Street Republican", but:
* Highly critical of government (false) * Strongly opposed to abortion and same-sex marriage (true) * Less enamored of business than the Staunch Conservatives (true) * Generally negative about immigrants (indifferent) * Mostly opposed to social welfare programs (false) * Confident that hard work pays off (true and false) * Supportive of government efforts to protect the environment (true and false)
Seems like a crude fit.

That's the problem with these things. I never fit well anywhere. Usually come in libertarian leaning right, though. The "profile" thing here does not fit me in several ways, spot on in others. These things are fun, though.

I'm a Post Modern, according to this assessment.
Like most assessments of this type, the questions/answers are too black and white, in my opinion. That's why so many feel they don't fit where they're slotted, I think.

I also didn't like the either or... there were several i answered 'lesser of two evils' ... Anyway: Solid Liberals 14% of the public
What They Believe Strongly pro-government and very liberal on a broad range of issues (? I am strongly for a democratic republic and feel people should be part of their government.... I am liberal on a broad range of issues if you are talking gay and abortion issues...) Very supportive of regulation, environmental protection and government assistance to the poor (ok) One of the most secular groups; 59% say that religion is not that important to them (true) Supportive of the country's growing racial and ethnic diversity (true) Two-thirds disagree with the Tea Party (again.... depends on who the 'tea party' is... if its Bauchman... definately true...) Who They Are Highly politically engaged (true) 75% are Democrats (true) Concentrated in the Northeast and West (true) 57% are female (true) Best educated of the groups: 49% hold at least a bachelor's degree and 27% have post-graduate experience (true) A third regularly listen to NPR, about two-in-ten regularly watch The Daily Show and read The New York Times (I'm eclectic... i don't like one source.. love Jon, but don't have tv, so watch online, usually just bits...) 59% have a passport (true) 42% regularly buy organic foods (true) 21% are first or second generation Americans (no.. but my husband is...?)
so that was interesting, i guess...

But i think that's one of the things 'wrong' with politics today... or these boards at least... lol... there is no room for anything but 'black and white'... I am actually not a 'solid liberal' ... but if i have to go all 'black and white' and pick a side.... then yeah, that's where i'll come in, or be ascribed to.... but there are lots of shades of gray out there...

We should come up with our own, better, list of quirky traits to determine people's ideology.
Do you buy organic food? Do you play golf? Do you prefer white meat turkey or dark meat turkey? Do you prefer Coke or Pepsi?

Do you buy organic food? When cost available. Do you play golf? Not in the last 3 years, have a set of clubs rusting in the shed. Do you prefer white meat turkey or dark meat turkey? Depends, which is wrapped in bacon. Do you prefer Coke or Pepsi? Pepsi, coke has too sweet of a taste for me, and for some reason will cause heartburn after a few sips.

I came in as Libertarian, which I am. I didn't like some of the questions either, this quiz would have been better if there had been a third middle of the road answer.

I think by forcing you to pick the lesser of two evils in certain questions, it allows the algorithm to slide you into a certain result. like I said in the OP, it's just another type-quiz. have any of you that wanted to say "neither" gone back and selected the other answer for one or more of those questions? I wonder how much it skews the algorithm to place you somewhere else. there really aren't that many questions for the quiz to place you in one of quite a few results.

Yes I did chiver78, I took it 1st based off of how I felt, selecting the closer answer to my feelings, which placed me in Libertarian Territory, I took it 2nd time using the opposite answer for the questions I didn't feel were actually viable and it placed me in Main Stream Republican.

Just for fun, I went back and changed all my answers except age and gender to the oposite of what I came up with before. I came up Solid Liberal.

To answer Molly's quiz: Some times No Neither None

This test seems pretty clumsy to me. I come up staunch Republican, but on most political tests I come up libertarian. I am a staunch Republican, but that is by choice, in reaction to liberalism, not by nature. You all know I am very easy going. ;D Right?
