The raid on the Obama compound across an international border, without the invitation or cooperation of the government on the other side of that border, followed by the killing by gunfire of an unknown number of people, at least one of which was unarmed and defenseless, (bin Laden), the shooting and wounding of at least one unarmed and defenseless woman, (bin Laden's wife), and no laws were broken? ?? Forget the fact that the president authorized it all. It's the best news I have heard come from Eric Holder since he was confirmed as Attorney General of the United States. Surely that announcement will be followed by all charges being dropped and return t duty for all of the men who have ever been charged with violating the rules of engagement in combat throughout the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Unless of course there are some laws that can only be broken by some people.

Wow, Ed here's the second card you've played today:
[insert race card here]
Too bad it's not nearly enough for a full deck. [insert more card jokes here involving jokers, shuffling, dealing (with it), being the king of something, having something in spades, trumping, playing solitaire, (not) havng a heart, etc.]

You're missing the point.

And actually, that race card was played by Eric "My People" Holder. Ed just reminded us of the fact- like I am reminding you what this regime REALLY thinks of the military being on the hunt for terrorists, and how we treat the enemy with kid gloves, and attack our military servicemen.

Sorry, they did wrong, company punishment, something like weekend pass revoked, but then given back about 1100 hundred , and the troops sent on their way.

Sorry, they did wrong.... I agree. They should have opted to have an air vent installed in the murdering sob's forehead much like SEAL team 6 did with bin Laden. Lesson learned I guess.

Why should now be any different. People are used to twisting and turning...I'm just trying to fit in. In case you didn't read this in the article " The three, all members of the Navy's elite commando unit, have refused non-judicial punishment — called a captain's mast — and have requested a trial by court-martial." The mast hearings would have been under the radar and likely amounted to a mere slap on the wrist for these men. Apparently they felt they did no wrong and were ready to put their careers on the line to defend themselves.

Maybe put some logic and facts into it, and less pointing of fingers at other people. Also why don't you tell us all about your obsession with the Black Panthers? That was about two and a half years ago, and you're still mentioning it.

Is it legal for law enforcement to shoot unarmed criminals in the face?
This administration has said that terrorists are not enemy combatants. They are criminals.

I saw that , and since captains mast isn't part of ones permanent jacket..that was the way it should have gone. Unless they can Prove with witnesses , impartial ones the prisoner did attack, spit, cause a ruckus, technically after in custody one does not smack them, the military has ways to handle these things, for a reason, and they were trying to , military, trying to play by the rules , make their point with the folks charged, discipline, good order, and yet put the chastising in the correct frame of mind to the incident. IMHO. Courts , cost time of others, better served in other duties, possible financial costs and if the defense is poor, or if they technically are in the wrong, it's not what one always think is the correct thing, what the verdict can be. Believe courts are part of ones permanent record too.

Under Bush terrorists were considered enemy combatants. Under Obama terrosists are considered criminals.

Hey, we love the SEALS, and are GLAD they blew him away, no matter how they did it. What we are having fun with is liberal hypocrisy. We remain the same, but you guys have come a long way from supporting Code Pink to assassinating an unarmed man.....

Well then, I suppose Obama supporters are now in favor of enhanced interrogations techniques and rendition since these things were crucial to getting the information that led to Osama's location? UC Berkeley law professor John Yoo, architect of the legal framework justifying torture at the Justice Department from 2001-03, said the success vindicates the torture policies.
"President George W. Bush, not his successor, constructed the interrogation and warrantless surveillance programs that produced this week's actionable intelligence," Yoo writes. "For this, congressional Democrats and media pundits pilloried him for allegedly exceeding his presidential powers and violating the Bill of Rights."
CIA director Leon Panetta said in numerous interviews that torture was involved in securing some of the information used to hunt bin Laden:
"Obviously there was...some valuable information that...was derived through those kinds of interrogations," Panetta told Katie Couric of CBS last night. "But I guess the question that everybody will always debate is whether or not those approaches had to be used to get the same information. And that, frankly, is an open question."
Panetta said this does not in his opinion mean that Obama's ban on torture should be re-evaluated. Given the damage done to U.S. credibility and the violation of American ideals, and the unanswerable question about whether the same or better information could have been produced by other means, Panetta's conclusion seems both wise and objectively detached from the partisan furies that this issue has revived.
As for using the word torture instead of the Bush White House construction, "enhanced interrogation techniques," the simple English word for waterboarding, extreme sleep deprivation and slamming prisoners against walls is honest and clear, and the euphemism Orwellian.[/b] www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/nov05election/detail?entry_id=88341#ixzz1LPaH0jSC

In the United States, police officers shoot and kill unarmed suspects fairly frequently, and in the vast majority of cases the police officers' actions were found to be within departmental and legal guidelines. In most cases, the suspects were either resisting, fleeing, or the officers "thought" they might be armed. Police Officers aren't required to actually SEE a gun or knife, or wait to be shot at, before they are allowed to open fire. Granted, the U.S. military operates under different rules and parameters. This was primarily directed to the original post which stated, in part: " followed by the killing by gunfire of an unknown number of people, at least one of which was unarmed and defenseless, (bin Laden), the shooting and wounding of at least one unarmed and defenseless woman, (bin Laden's wife), and no laws were broken? ??"
