Today is the 40th anniversary of the Kent State killing of four students by the National Guard. This was a sad time for America; our troops killed unarmed Americans at this Ohio University.

Of course you aren't- nothing wrong with the government gunning down citizens. They should do it more often.

There is value in the attempt, no matter how futile, to rekindle the awareness that periodically American troops have gunned down American civilians on American soil. I believe that the loss of that awareness helps it happen again (and again).

Kent State illustrates why we have POLICE handle civil disturbances and not the Military. Military are trained to kill. That's why maybe the exemption for governors and the national guard should be removed from the Posse Comitatus Act. Then again, according to the Wikipedia article, we now have U.S. Marines MPs hanging out with CA highway patrolmen at sobriety and drivers license checkpoints, and the U.S. Army's 3rd Infantry Divisions 1st Brigade Combat Team being allowed to be used on U.S. soil for natural and man made disasters - they are also being trained for foreign crowd control, but when will it be brought over here? With all this going on, it seems to me that the law is pointless to have on the books - either obey it, get rid of it, or start prosecuting military leaders and impeaching politicians for violating the act. And of course we cannot forget the militarization of our police after 9/11. If it's difficult to have the military police us, then just turn the police into the military. Unless we return back to a constitutional system and government, things are just going to get worse and worse. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Posse_Comitatus_Act
