Michele Bachmann Compares Debt Crisis to HolocaustRead More: www.politico.com/news/stories/0411/53993.html"MANCHESTER, N.H. — Rep. Michele Bachmann invoked the Holocaust Saturday morning as she described the tax burden that America's next generation will face unless action is taken to reduce federal spending and the national debt. The Minnesota Republican told more than 200 Republicans gathered at a meeting of conservatives that she recalled learning about the Holocaust as a young girl and being horrified that many Americans didn't learn until after World War II that millions of Jews were killed. Bachmann, careful to note that there was no direct analogy in today's times to the Holocaust, still tied the loss of "economic liberty" that Americans face today to the systematic killing of six million European Jews. "We are seeing eclipsed in front of our eyes a similar death and a similar taking away," Bachmann said. "It is this disenfranchisement that I think we have to answer to."

Insanity has completely taken over.... where do these nuts come from? It's scary to see what kind of folks are out there and the ones that hang on every word in adoration.

Oh, yes, they are very careful in not directly linking today's times, Obama, or the government to the Holocaust, but that isn't their goal. Instead, they just want to plant the seed. In this way, it is much akin to handing the murder weapon to the defendant in order to give the jurors' a mental image of the accused holding it. Once that image is established, it becomes more "real," and thus future charges become a bit easier to believe.

Are you suggesting that Republicans and conservatives do not engage in propaganda and carefully worded statements? Or is this another attempt to pretend that the Republican party is on the road to sainthood?

I am really tired of moronic politicians using one of the most Evil periods of Man's History to promote their political agenda. I realize most have people who write their utterences, but in rereading you would think they would realize how off the wall they are and putt heir own two cents in to what they are going to say. In this particuler case , she realized it 'Might " be misunderstood, thus the following, "Bachmann, careful to note that there was no direct analogy in today's times to the Holocaust", duuu, so why not realize it shouldn't be there in the first place and come up with another more appropriate analogy, duuuuu, to lazy to reword , to stupid to do so???

Hey, the 2012 Olympics are coming up. If there's a backpeddling event, I'll be sure to suggest you.
Oh, and since Shirina never said only the Republicans do it, could you squeeze in some reading comprehension lessons in your Olympic training regimen? Thnx in advance.

I am really tired of moronic politicians using one of the most Evil periods of Man's History to promote their political agenda. I see nothing wrong in it. She's made a valid point/analogy in her speech and comments. The only difference here, Hitler rounded up people and starved them to death and killed them, in America, they don't have concentration camps for the people (yet), but let them starve and die in their own homes or at the hands of others fighting for survival.

I've already explained in detail why it is some politicians immediately reach for Nazi/Hitler/Holocaust analogies right off the bat.
You can find that explanation in the "Nazis, Fascists, etc ..." thread.
And no, I didn't say only Republicans pull this stunt. The Democrats and liberals did the same with Bush.
The primary difference, however, is that it appears the Hitler references are far more mainstream among the Republicans whereas they were fringy among the far-left.

But that's my point - it was the fringe left, not a possible presidential candidate like Michelle Bauchmann. Nor did you see another possible presidential candidate like Donald Trump preaching conspiracy theories. The mainstream liberals and Democrats did not endorse or encourage movies like "Death of a President."
Obama, for instance, never slammed Bush over his supposed involvement in the 9/11 attacks nor did he try to accuse McCain of wanting to throw people into FEMA camps, nor did any Democratic candidate compare Bush or McCain to Hitler.
But now, mainstream Republicans - people who just might run for president - are endorsing and spreading fringy nonsense.

Bachman was comparing the ignorance of the general public then (WWII) to the ignorance of the general public now. It is a valid comparison.

Bachman was comparing the ignorance of the general public then (WWII) to the ignorance of the general public now. It is a valid comparison. I question if it was ignorance or just indifference, and of course anti Semitic feelings of the time. No, not considering a "Final Solution , as the outcome, even for the average German , this was not the story given as to the treatment of the Jews, though it was known horrible things were happening, by returning veterans, businessman who were involved in going east to build and develop these camps, supply the crystals, work on the rail, take possession of the belongings of and profit buy them, the word was out, unofficially, but it was known by most, something very bad was happening, and best to just ignore and not ask, by the Germans themselves.
