So we’re watching Nightmare on Elm Street last weekend I asked my girlfriend – I wonder if kids today are afraid of their version as we were afraid of our version? As we’re watching the remake we’re not scared at all, but today’s kid are. Then today’s kids would look at our version and not be scared thinking I can’t believe this old movie scared my parents.

I’m noticing a lot of movies today are remakes! No I don’t just mean the same story being told over and over or same story being told similar to original. I mean the same movie title, same idea, and same plot is being made again. Once I see the movie, I think “wow! That was a great movie!” then some time later I find out it’s only a remake! No original thought into it! Just go out find some of today’s actors and do it all over again! then I don't like it as much anymore. well actually some remakes I do like just as much

Hello Peach! I’m sure you have noticed the same about today’s movies. I noticed you prefer the classics.
Why can’t movies be made with the times we are in?
Take Gone in Sixty Seconds! I saw the remake first and thought WOW great movie! Now I don’t really like it as much – actually no where near as much as I did when I first saw it because I later found out it’s a remake. I watched the original. I think the original was better! The original made since with the times. Back in the day Hell yea a car thief can steal a car as easy as making a wooden box! Car alarms back then were only sirens! Well pop the hood - look around for the speaker/siren/thing making the loud noise and pull the connected wire.
So all the history we have corrective actions have taken place! So NO people can NOT steal a car easily anymore! Police have almost thousands of ways to find a stolen car today, compared to the 70’s. And what cars were they stealing in the remake? Cars of the 70’s and 80’s! But when they got to a current car they had to steal duplicate keys from the dealer! Also A-B-S-O-L-U-T-E-L-Y .....H-E-L-L- NO!! you can NOT steal a car from today- crash it through a window with a 2 or 3 foot drop to the ground! That is so funny cause the car would fall apart so fast! I know – I don’t take it that seriously – I do watch for it’s entertainment value!

Z - there are some movies where I like both (or in some cases, ALL of the versions). A Guy Named Joe was remade as Always. I like both movies. Death Takes A Holiday was remade as Meet Joe Black. I absolutely LOVE the remake. The original...meh. I like both the original and the remake of Imitation of Life, but both versions are OLD movies. Here Comes Mr. Jordan was remade as Heaven Can Wait. I like both movies. Love Affair (1939) was remade as An Affair To Remember, then as Love Affair again with Warren Beatty & Annette Bening. I like all 3 versions. what I really don't get is the remake of movies from the 70s and 80s. Rollerball, Brian's Song, The Longest Yard, Arthur, to name a few. Remaking any Gary Cooper movie with Adam Sandler as the new lead is a DUMB ASS idea I think there are some classics that shouldn't be touched.

there was also a remake of The Omen (nothing can beat the original with Gregory Peck!) And why would anyone attempt to remake Psycho?
The Maltese Falcon (1941) was a remake that's actually much, much better than the original.

Plus seriously movie directors. let the old days go! people can not get a fake ID as easily as it was in the 70's and 80's! people can not steal cars, rob banks, not even home invasions, AND Murder like they used to! Society has learned and has adapted and you guys need to come up with real time movies!!

OH!!! I know - come up with comedies that show how fast technology is changing and how difficult of a time people are having to keep up! I would sooo go see movies like this! I would rather laugh at myself, or just laugh than continuously get frustrated when my dad calls for the 12th time while I'm at work talking to my director of operations and he's asking how do I bold again!

Star Wars was a remake of the Japanese movie, Hidden Fortress.
I really do believe there are only so many formulas, and what makes the movie good is how the director/cast puts a spin on any given formula.

Yep. Check out the movie. Perhaps not a "remake" but the similarities are too uncanny to miss.

Hidden Fortress? Ok I'll look into in. But if it's too old I'll have to pass...

Hidden Fortress is really old, and foreign.
I would say making Miami Vice into a movie would qualify as a remake...

Dennis the menace I do remember that movie - didn't see it - still don't want to see it - have no interest in seeing that. I wouldn't consider it a remake though...

There is one movie that's been made three times, and I love all of them. "Shop Around the Corner" was the first version (I think). Then it became "In the Good Old Summertime" with Judy Garland. And the newest version was "You've Got Mail." For some reason I particularly love to watch "In the Good Old Summertime" around Christmas. I think because it ends at Christmas time.

HAD A thought - for NEW idea instead of making a remake!
I would like to know the out-come from the Horror movies when the survivors get back home?
you know when the movie starts out with 5 to 8 or 11 people. all of them friends (usually) then the killing starts and by the end of the movie there is 1 or maybe 2 people that survive. so what do they tell the police?

Star Wars was a remake of the Japanese movie, Hidden Fortress. Yeah, but if you're going to remake something, remake something Kurrosawa. You wouldn't be completely off if you claimed that all movies are Kurrosawa remakes of differing degrees. .... if you've got an action movie where the first 5 minutes are an action sequence unrelated to the overall plot, you are watching The Seven Saumurai. George Carlin once claimed all raquet sports are derivations of ping pong. Even volleyball is raquet-less team ping pong, played with an inflated ball, with a raised net while standing on the table.

The TV show Bewitched was also remade into a movie (but it wasn't as good as the original TV version). Same with The Brady Bunch.

George Carlin once claimed all raquet sports are derivations of ping pong.He also was of the opinion that a sport was only a true sport if there was a potential for injury. I miss him.

The TV show Bewitched was also remade into a movie (but it wasn't as good as the original TV version). Same with The Brady Bunch. Bewitched the movie I wasn't (still not) interested in seeing cause I'm not so much a Will Farrel fan. I mean he is (can be) funny? But nah no interest in seeing all the the movie - I've only seen bits and pieces. Brady Bunch? didn't know that's a movie.

Z - the Brady Bunch movie was so funny. Not worth theater price, but definitely worth watching if you watched the show at all as a kid. I thought they did an excellent job on the casting. the remake that bugged the crap outta me was Death at A Funeral. Never watched the American version. The original (Brit movie, I think) was hilarious. Why would you remake a movie in 2010...in the SAME LANGUAGE...as the original made in 2007?

Just watched "Out of the Past" on TCM. Great film noir with Robert Mitchum. It was remade as "Against All Odds". I like both movies, but "Out of the Past" is EXCELLENT. Great one liners, great acting, cast & scenery. Robert Mitchum at his absolute best.

Can Hollywood finally give up on remaking A Christmas Carol?! Please? Aren't the 79 versions out there enough already? ;D
