I'm exhausted, not at all hungover actually. celebration was great, we passed around a bottle of champagne while hooting and hollering. good thing the downstairs neighbor didn't mind - my sis lives in an up-and-down duplex, we watched the game in the other apt! just waiting on parade news now, and working on my 3rd coffee of the morning already. I have to say though, I am very surprised at the news of riots, fires and such out west.

I am very surprised. I guess my positive stereotype of Canadians being gentle creatures was all wrong. I totally get being upset over losing the Cup at home, but don't trash your own town, fool!

Sorry I missed calling the score last night I thought the Canucks might score a few goals but lose the game to the B's who kicked butt last night again.. BTW we have riots and demonstrations out here in Oakland CA @ once or twice a year that would make what happened in Vancouver last night look small and miniscule IMHO

I haven't paid a lot of attention to hockey since the last strike. I mean, why bother? Life went on without it and I found plenty of other things to do.
Because of that, I can't say for sure that the best team won, but certainly the best goalie won.
I couldn't figure out why DH was so anti-Canucks and anti-Luango over the last seven games. I mean, the Leafs were out so of course he doesn't care who wins, but man, the hostility. I think the truth came out late last night. DH seems to think it's a good thing `cause maybe Luango will be traded to the Leafs and they'll have a chance next year. Is he delusional or could that help?
Regarding the riots, we lived in Vancouver during the Cup run against New York. After some minor fracas downtown during a early game, buzz started going around about a riot. So naturally, people like us that figured it could happen stayed away from downtown during the last few games and the idiots looking for a fight or at least some excitement started gathering in greater numbers. It was a given that there would be people there just to look for trouble and if they couldn't find it, they would make it (i.e., Anarchists in Seattle and elsewhere). And it doesn't take many idiots to get things out of hand. So 17 years ago or so, the numbers tipped so that there was some trouble after Game 6 and total chaos after Game 7.
I don't imagine it was much different this year. Idiots who were children during the first riot went "Oh, sounds like fun!" and started hanging around with everyone else in case something happened.
It's probable that a couple of drunk asses fighting over the game got things going but it takes people wanting trouble and giving in to group think that really gets it rolling.
Another complication for cops that year and, I'm assuming, this time is all the people trying to get home to the West End that won't take "turn around and go away" for an answer. I had a co-worker threatening to sue the cops back in 90-whatever because he got caught in a wave of pepperspray. The women in front of him were arguing with a cop. Their apt was just across the street from where they were standing and he wouldn't let them pass. The cop got tired of arguing with them and after a warning or two hit them with the spray.

We watched the game at home but ran down to the bar across the street for the last 5 minutes - then partied there & hung out out front cheering at all the cars driving by honking. IT WAS GREAT. Feeling ok today but exhausted, lol. Totally going in for the parade Saturday and I can't wait! ;D went to Modell's this morning to get DF a hat, me a shirt & my car a sticker I'm reminded of the Red Sox riots.... in '03 and '04 (when we finally won it) I was at UMass, and man, did they riot out there - flipped cars, set fires, etc. it was crazy. Chive, Malarky - y'all going to the parade?! ;D

ok, so watching the Bruins toss the ceremonial first pitch to the Sox was just pretty freaking cool. not to mention that the Duck Boats came out onto the warning track for a victory lap with the Cup and the Conn Smythe trophy. wow. oh, and the PA announcers played both the goal horn and the song we hear at the Garden after a goal. pretty freaking cool. now win the game, Sox....keep up the great Boston vibes!

So excellent! Wish I was at that Sox game. I watched a bit, and got excited every time the goal horn went off now that hockey is over I can start paying attention to the Sox again, and damn are they doing well after that crap start to the season! For your viewing pleasure - we were front row at the parade:
