I can say with confidence that it's going to be a shit show here on Tuesday. Yesterday governor rejected Fed request to send monitors to numerous Texas counties, including mine. All part of gutting out the Voting Rights Act - states now have to grant "permission" for feds to step in and try to stop voting abuses. No federal monitors permitted at polling locations or vote tabulation centers, hmmm? Can't imagine why.

I'm living in a deep blue city and county in the middle of a bright red state, so our politics are a little weird. Cruz keeps running an ad saying, "Keep Texas Texas" and I keep screaming assorted profanities at the screen. Abbott would like to nuke Harris County out of existence but we are still too linked to the oil and gas industry so he's sort of stuck with us . And, of course, immigrant workers are key to our state's economic strength too, the home building industry relies on that, and the developers are a VERY powerful lobby. Abbott and his cronies know they live by the lobbies and they will die by the lobbies.

My husband wants to move to Canada if Trump wins. I don’t know if we can manage that, but I can manage a news blackout. Stick to non news channels and streaming true crime and cozy murder shows for the next four years. Especially if Trump lets Musk run amok in a special government gutting agency, and the two of them plunge the country into economic chaos. That’s not as easy as you might think. Portugal is currently the easiest country to emigrate to. Djadvocate is ahead of the curve. I don’t mean immigrate, i mean live there as an expat. My family lived in Europe for ten years when I was growing up. Stay away until the stupid blows over.

I'm not a fan of polls because of their inherent bias, but it looks very close. Some say Allred is within 1 percentage point. I can dream

a lot of this depends on how accurate the polls are, and where the final % of swing voters will fall.
i have lots of theories about this. i have posted them elsewhere. there is only one way to find out, and that is to look back in the weeks and months ahead.

In case you have ever wondered, it is incredible boring to sit in a vehicle observing a ballot dropbox in small town America on a Saturday night. People have been dropping off ballots at the mind numbing rate of one per hour for the two hours I have been on duty.
Our county Auditor sent out a call for trained election observers to stand watch, from a distance, over our dropboxes. No engagement, just reporting anything questionable. Washington State gave her a grant to pay us a little stipend for our time. The firebombs elsewhere in the state has them concerned. Silly me thought I should sign up. Civic duty and all that rot.
I am sure that any real threat would be after my bedtime but I volunteered for an earlier shift. Still it is a dark lonely spot so who knows. Another hour and 45 to go.

I run my mouth a lot about politics. I would be a disaster in any elective role so this is just my attempting to find a way to walk the walk.
