Harriet is starting to show her age and the increasing dampness and lower temps have her moving slowly and painfully. Vet has her on an anti inflammatory, and she’s moving better than she did.
Right now, I have my heating pad on top of her dog bed, covered with a towel. It’s really not big enough, especially since Sheldon is all over it too.
Amazon has mostly heated cat beds, but larger heating pads. Has anyone purchased anything for their pet that has worked?

I think the human heating pads are usually too hot for pets, the adjustable pet ones let you set a lower temperature that works better for them.

Thanks. I may just look at the larger heating pad since both seem to want to sleep together. I’m just amazed as to how quickly both have glommed onto this.

I have five dog houses in the backyard. No dogs. But the houses are for the backyard cat colony. Each house has an all-weather pet heating pad in them for the winter months. Bought the pads on Amazon.

Nope, I have a dog-heated bed instead. (She sleeps on the bed with me, under the covers.) It doesn't do my dog much good when I'm not there and an older dog may need that.
From what I have googled, there are some heated dog beds out there that react to the heat of the dog and heat only to the temperature of the dog. I think that is what you should be looking for. Not having them running twenty-four seven should save you a bundle in energy costs pretty quickly. Having them turn on automatically will just make them work the way that you want them to work.

My Jumbo Sized Cat (he was long and tall and chonky) used a medium sized heated dog bed. Chewy and K&H Pet products sell heated dog/cat beds usually with sides (not just a flat mat type bed).
I've had several different styles. My cats shed an incredible amount of hair so I never really washed the covers - I would de-fur the bed weekly and spot clean. I started using a section of an old bed sheet to cover the bed - because I just throw it out when it got overly furry (after some in between cleanings).
There are also beds and mats that "reflect" the animals body heat when they are using it. These aren't electric. But still provide "heat".
All the cats loved the "roasters" - heated cat/dog beds with "sides". Some of the cats also enjoyed beds/mats that reflected back their body heat. This leads me to believe that dogs might have similar attitudes. You may need to try different beds/mats.
If your pup is stiff - there are Orthopedic Dog beds - which I think might be some sort of "memory foam" or something.

She has a heated dog bed and a heated dog blanket. Because the dogs sleep with them, they use the heated blanket most. It has been on their couch all summer and used there, quite often. I haven't actually held it up myself. But it looks to be the size of a throw. They love it! Good luck, to you and your pup!

The kitties are getting a heated bed. It's like the heating pad. I'm guessing I will have to buy a second one but I didn't want to get 2 in case they don't like them.
Maddow is 8 and the vet considers him a senior.
I had a heating pad for for my sweet Benjamin for probably the last 2 years of his 16 year life. He always slept on the heating pad.
We will see if either one of these two likes it. They did not use the bed I got that gets it's warmth from their body heat.

Well, my dressers and my winter closet are filled. I'm going to put my shoes away and call it a night for unpacking. I'll fill my summer closet tomorrow. Maybe I can get all the bags of randomness put away over the weekend.

I got a heated cat bed for my 18 year old MC and kept trying to place her in it and she would just leave. Took maybe two months for her to figure out there was heat there and now she’s either there or sleeping on our bed. In the summer I put it away because she spends her time basking on the screened porch in scorching weather. So it might take them a little bit to figure out the bed is toasty. I got one with fake fur inside and tall scrunchy sides so it’s very cozy. It’s not as hot as a human heating pad.

What I got is basicially a cat heating pad. It's not a bed. I don't think they would go in a bed.
The last time I got the heating pad, I had two cats and I did end up buying two heating pads.

The human heating pad has been a hit. Right now, there’s a competition to see who gets it, Harriet or Sheldon. They’ve not messed with the cord, but I have a towel thrown over it and they dig at the towel.
I guess that my next stop is to get one for them to share. There are bigger ones available, so both animals can bask in the warmth.
