Flags on government buildings will be at half-mast for 30 days. The body will lay in state at the Capitol.
I have been thinking about this lately, partially because Trump seems to be in worsening condition but also because Jimmy Carter will turn 100 in two weeks.
Jimmy Carter was not a great president but he has been an exemplary human being. Trump, one of the worst presidents and a vile person. It’s galling that he will receive the same treatment as Carter.

galling is a good word, but I feel like there's opportunity to change routine here. IIRC, the last President we lost was Reagan, and that was around when I also lost my Nana, so 2004ish. the reason that sticks in my mind is that we instructed the nurses to not give her the newspaper.
as far as Carter, I was born in the fall of '78. I defer to you elders as to his skills as President. but I concur that he is a top tier caliber human being, that we should all try to emulate.

A presidential aide says to Trump; "Sir, I had a dream about your parade yesterday night."
"Was it yuge?" Trump asked, visibly interested.
"Oh, yes," said the aide, "there were millions of cheering people turning out to celebrate all along the streets."
"Was it tremendous? Trump asked, visibly excited.
"Oh, yes," the aid replied; "You were in a huge carriage, flanked by all the members of your family and cabinet. They were also very proud and happy, particularly your wife."
Trembling with excitement and rubbing his little orange hands together, Trump questions the aide: "And tell me, was I looking good?"
The aide replies: "I didn't know, sir. The casket was closed."

I hope Carter is able to make his goal of voting in this election before he passes. It's great he did so much for Habitat for Humanity after his Presidency.

As much as I do not like that Trump will get this honor when he dies, you respect the office, not the man(or women)

As much as I do not like that Trump will get this honor when he dies, you respect the office, not the man(or women) this. I'm having a very hard time with some of the posts I've seen recently, that the third time is the charm. I saw the first one before I even heard about the golf course guy. I despised the man before he even hit the political radar. he needs to find a rock to crawl under and just die. but I'm not rooting for an assassin to come take him out.

But can they please put, "Here lies Trump...one last time" on his tombstone?

If I’m not mistaken, the president gets to plan his own funeral in advance. I remember Reagan had a quite formal funeral, with a long parade and a lot of guys on horse back. This was in 2004, then in 2006, Gerald Ford died, and (it seemed to me) they carried his coffin off a plane and yetted it right into the ground (I’m sure it wasn’t that bad, but it seemed a lot shorter and less flashy) I was a little offended for Ford’s sake, but then found out that they get to help decide what kind of funeral they get.
If that’s the case, I expect Carter’s will be fairly subdued and very Christian. Trumps, on the other hand, will probably want a $2000 per plate banquet for 500 people hosted at Mar A Lago, where his sons will actually serve bologna sandwiches and Koolaid so they can do one final big grift for the family.
I wonder if they give the presidents a budget limit to work with? Maybe we should put one in place right now.

But can they please put, "Here lies Trump...one last time" on his tombstone? Well, I have been wondering how Jr. and Eric will try to monetize the funeral.

I don’t care what the government is required to do, nor what his cult will do. They can celebrate Trump all he wants. I will also be celebrating.
