I’ve seen a few interviews with the two authors of the new book, Lucky Loser. New York Time reporters Susanne Craig and Russ Buettner published an article in 2016 based on financial documents they got from Mary Trump, showing that Trump had lost almost a billion dollars in 2016.
Now they’ve written a book called Lucky Loser: How Donald Trump Squandered His Father’s Fortune and Created the Illusion of Success. It provides reams of data to back up their summary of Trump’s decade ending in 1995 as a failure of historical proportions.
They also go through his life sharing anecdotes about how he has been faking his way through life, including one that especially fascinated me -when he was in military school and was participating in something that was going to be photographed, he borrowed the uniform jacket of a friend who had a chest full of metals, so Trump could look like he had been an exemplary student when he hadn’t. Stolen valor.
There’s also lots of stories about how his dad seemed to think Trump was a golden child, unable to do anything wrong, and always ready to bail Trump out of any financial failure he got mired in.
I have mixed feelings on this. It sounds like an extremely well researched book, but on the other hand, I am so fucking sick of Trump and his bullshit. I think reading even a very well written book about his entire fake life might just be too much. Maybe I need to wait until after the election, anyway. It might be easier to read it if he loses. Impossible to read if he wins.
