Russian election interference

US caught Russia paying interest sites to host their content in an effort to interfere with the election. Ten million went to a TN company who doled out the cash - 400k a month to one site.

They aren’t listing the names of the sites that took the money and posted the content- why not? Those sites should be shamed out of existence.

Maybe they are gathering evidence still to prosecute enablers on the US side. It would be nice though to have a list prior to the election. And there isn't much time, it should be released by mid-October or before when early voting starts.

It sounds like they are not going to prosecute the people who ran the websites - I think because the money was funneled through a Tennessee company so the true origin of the money was obscured.

Even so, I think it would be good to let people know that the Drunk Uncle Treehouse website they’ve been getting their news from got their news from Russia. Might be educational.

Trump somehow sold them on the idea Russia is their friend back in 2015. I don't know how he did it, but they seem to only act up if he goes against prior strong programming. Like when Trump started to say vaccines for Covid were good and wanted kudos for pushing so the Vaccines were released when they were. It might do something for independents who visited the rabbit holes because of parents and spouses. But his well-trained sheeple, his made-up stories seem to be their entire world. 

I think of how scgal is anti-anyone who is not an OK GOPer by Trump standards. The treehouse has always been sketchy and like most Russian propaganda aspirational instead of anything dealing with RL or truth. I remember how Trump was supposed to win in this massive red wave in 2016. It never came, but I think the PR worked in getting red voters to the polls and discouraging other voters from showing up at all.

According to Reddit (they linked an AP article) It says right wing influencers including "Tim Pool, Dave Rubin and Benny Johnson" They say the amount funneled to a Tennessee based content creation company was nearly $10,000,000.  That's a heck a lotta money not to charge anyone.

when i read portions of this indictment, you know what my first thought was? how our enemies could easily have used this same conduit to spread misinformation about COVID. so, maybe Trump was either knowingly or unknowingly responsible for killing 1M people. i just thought it was his incompetence that did it. but what if he was actually either directly or indirectly involved in spreading the misinformation KNOWINGLY?

that would be a war crime, imo.

Yes, they are all saying that they were defrauded and never told where the money was coming from, so they are victims here.  Apparently it is true that they were not told Russia was funding the company.  Is that at all relevant?  The fact remains that a company funded by Russia to promote Russian interests recruited THEM.  Why?  Because their beliefs and their content PROMOTES Russian interests.  How difficult is that for ANYONE to understand?

Yes, they are all saying that they were defrauded and never told where the money was coming from, so they are victims here.  Apparently it is true that they were not told Russia was funding the company.  Is that at all relevant?  The fact remains that a company funded by Russia to promote Russian interests recruited THEM.  Why?  Because their beliefs and their content PROMOTES Russian interests.  How difficult is that for ANYONE to understand?      

for me, there are two PARALLEL issues, here.

the first is that these pathetic wankstains were barely making it.  it was a network with something like six commentators, and they were bringing in less than $1M/year, less expenses.  suddenly, Uncle Sugar shows up, and they go to $10M/year. with HALF going to Pool.  what did they ask?  well they asked to share their Russian content.  and if you are anything other than a soaked in silage maggot like Pool, you would HAVE to wonder how something that was not even keeping the lights on you before is now bringing in mid-six-figures.  and there is significant evidence that he WAS suspicious.  but in the end, he took the money.  because he is a big old ho.  or maybe he thinks he is better than that.  he thinks he is Jesus, and that the righteous get their reward.  or something.

so, we have a guy who was previously just undermining American interests, and now is doing so in a well funded way.  but something made him wonder how this happened, or he would not have navigated his path to victimhood so quickly.  and so, either in the back or front of his mind, he HAD to know he was part of a psy-op.

having these websites taken down will certainly help our elections.  and i hope that the net goes much further with more indictments in the coming weeks.

It is 277 pages, so I just skimmed through the first 77 pages.  Apparently one of the things they were doing was cloning sites like the Washington Post and Fox News and many other news sites and publishing articles supposedly written by the legit writers on their websites.  If you went to the actual news site though, you would not find the fake articles created to interfere with our election.
