And that is when you realize that for too many it was never about Christianity, it was about the patriarchy sanctioned in the Bible.
When religious men comment to me that it all falls apart, i.e. if women were in the priesthood or similar, I decide they aren't religious or Christian at all. Because if you miss the big idea of the New Testament, God so loved the world he sent his son to die for us, and think it's about you being anointed to head the church and your family, you have more issues than I care to deal with.

Because Evangelicals are like many Catholics are like DJT. Appearance is more important than reality. I personally only know a couple of Evangelicals so I won't speak for them. But DJT is using the Christian nation thing so he wants them all under his voter umbrella. Its much like back in the day, if you were divorced, you could not hold any leadership position in a Baptist church no matter what. Yet, because abortion, many Evangelicals are embracing a two timed divorced man, who openly admits he cheated on those wives, a known felon, etc. cuz "babies". Which most do not give a crap about once they are born.

Its not about being Christian and it never was. It is about some imaginary shared cultural values like celebrating Christmas and for some treating gays like crap. These people believe life is a zero sum game. Someone wins, and if you are not a winner, you are a loser. Trump is the perfect manifestation of that. So half a loaf is better than none. And if you debase yourself enough, you get rewarded with some crumbs. Its way the racist tropes work so well on poor white folks. They are at least better than someone. My life sucks, but someone else has it worse. Awful way to live your life, but that is what they believe. If you believe that the odds are stacked against you, you just accept what you get.
