"We kept going until we couldn't go any more," Piro told the outlet. "The last conversation that we had, she was in the process of realizing that things had taken a pretty significant turn. The conversation was about love and support and caring and still fighting through. Without describing specifics as a medical professional because it would violate privacy laws, Piro said Doherty faced "a limited situation of options" because of her condition over the last few weeks. Nonetheless, he said, she remained an active participant in her healthcare and focused on what she could do within those limitations. He described her as "an incredible warrior in everything she did.”



The hard-fighting actor publicly announced her diagnosis in 2015, revealing in a lawsuit against her former management firm that her health insurance had lapsed in 2014, which affected her ability to access timely treatment. She has chronicled her diagnosis, remission and relapses since then, revealing last summer that the cancer had spread to her brain and, in November,


I liked her performances in Charmed. I do not know what she was like as a person, but this was a tough road.

“How do you possibly find the right words to sum up 30 years of friendship?” Sarah Michelle began. “I keep reminding myself it only hurts this much because, there was so much love.”

“I love all the messages about how [Shannen] was important to you,” Sarah Michelle wrote, before revealing the best way to “honour her”.



“More than anything, Shan loves animals, especially dogs. In her memory let’s support our favourite animal charities. Whether that’s donating money, stopping by your local shelter and just offering cuddles and walks to animals housed there or even just tagging them in the comments so other people can learn about their work,” she wrote.



Sarah Michelle ended her post by saying she knows “that would make our girl happy” and elicit “that deep throaty laugh we all loved”.

I find it baffling that she didn't have health insurance and was unable to access quality healthcare. I remember watching the actors in Beverly Hills 90210 and thinking how they were all set for life while I was struggling. I have always believed that the rich had better access to care than the rest of us, and she seemed to have a lot of great roles in popular shows.

Actually that may have been in one of the links I posted. I might be misremembering what I read, but there was a gap in her health insurance coverage, maybe a year or more, and that prevented her from catching this cancer earlier. Like us non actor types, health insurance in the US industry mostly follows the job not the actor. So going from 90210 to Charmed would mean different insurance, different costs, etc.

She did sue, but that does not allow you to go back in time and say catch it at stage 1 or 2.
