There’s a federal program that says if a school has over a certain percentage of poor students who qualify for free breakfast/lunches, the school can get free breakfast/lunches for ALL their kids. It saves the schools from having to hand out the forms to the kids, get them filled out, verify the contents, yadda yadda yadda, so it’s actually cheaper for the schools to implement. Everyone gets to eat, who hoo, right? Nope. We don’t want families getting used to the handouts, right? Can’t have kids who aren’t technically poor enough getting free food, right? newrepublic.com/post/173668/republicans-declare-banning-universal-free-school-meals-2024-priorityHow short sighted can you be. Hungry kids can’t learn. Kids that don’t learn don’t do well in school. Kids that don’t do well in school don’t end up being doctors, engineers, mechanics, teachers. I think we could afford to not make another jet fighter and instead spend that money on letting the kids not be hungry.

Yup, let's ban abortions, then refuse to feed all of those kids that nobody wanted in the first place. The current GOP is the perfect definition of a hypocrite.

To be fair, heads of evangelical churches and some "right to be born into squalor" politicians have admitted they are OK to just get those fetuses born. Honestly one of my talking points if I ran for Prez would be , 'so what's up with always bringing up some fairytale that babies can be killed at birth by the doctor or parents?' I know that isn't heepening in the Real World, so what are "you guys" doing in RL to make this true? I really want to know ! I might start singing or doing performance art during the deafening silence of crickets from their end. This would only be for the 2024 election season though ... as I wouldn't have a shot at winning unless people voted for me instead of Mickey Mouse.

Also found out today that project 2025 wants to eliminate NOAA because they won’t stop talking about global climate change.
Everyone knows the best way to deal with a problem is to pretend it doesn’t exist.🤬
Guess that’s how we’ll handle hurricanes, too. Stand out in your yard of your coastal home and think pleasant thoughts rather than worry about that scary bank of dark clouds rushing towards you.
Well, there’s a lot of old MAGA supporters in Florida, this is one way to thin the herd.

question: are lunches paid for on capitol hill? And what about their exclusive subsidized gym? I am quite sure there are more than a few perks they get courtesy of the taxpayers that they should be paying for out of their own pocket before they should even THINK about taking food out of the mouths of any kids - especially since they are so hell bent on forcing any woman to carry any embryo to term

There's some more information regarding the Community Eligibility Provision here: It's an interesting program and you can learn a lot from poking around the USDA site. I'd encourage you to look up the lists of eligible school districts and schools and absorb what those numbers mean. We definitely have a child poverty problem in this country and you may be shocked by how many kids in schools near you are identified students.
