I am still surprised when this happens. When I was young, a British neighbor forcefully and emotionally told my parents that Labor was now the permanent opposition.
I don't know why I believed that git but I am still surprised every time that Labor wins Parliament.

Story on CNN: What election day has looked like across Britain
Voters up and down Britain have been putting their cross in their ballot papers, as church halls, schools and sports centers turn into polling stations for the day. Then there are these pictures: I'm think what the hell. Then read: Broadcasters can’t report much about the election while polls are open – but there’s no rules preventing us from showing you as many democratic dogs as possible. There’s less than an hour until we can bring you some real news – that’s when the exit poll will drop and we’ll get a sense of how the day has gone for all the parties. Love it!,

We were quite clearly told that you couldn't take dogs in to a polling station ...... but... some people are clueless, with a "I'll just call in when I'm walking that way with the dog" Still at least they went... (btw I didn't see any dogs) Labour weren't really offering much in the way of policy...... its just that the Conservatives weren't running the Country very well. So we had a change. Not much different to tbh, a few projects in the offing but we still have to make cuts to pay for the pandemic. The new chancellor is pretty much on the ball, so there is hope she'll get it sorted.

Are there politics right now on service dogs vs emotional support dogs vs dogs in general? I haven't been following along with what's happening there, but here in the US there are only certain Qs legally one is allowed to ask of someone saying they have an emotional support dog. Actual service dogs, different thing entirely, will have vests on and usually have serious training and documentation.

Yes guide dogs for the blind are allowed pretty much everywhere...... but not "emotional support dogs" that would be at the prior agreement of the establishment owner.
Its not really a thing over here.
Dogs are allowed in most council owned parks etc.... but you have to pick up after them and if asked put them on a lead.
I suppose our most recent legislation is that XL Bullys need to be registered, neutered and muzzled in public...... or destroyed. Too many people have been killed by them.... and they are a favourite of drug dealers etc, who train them to instil fear in the neighbourhood. So they are on the banned list.

Just so you know, someone I know uses one of the ummm what is called pit breeds for emotional support animals. IMO if you have someone who has an emotional regulation disorder or similar, a blue nose etc. might be the perfect dog for that situation. Because these dogs might be with their "client" for their entire working life. You don't want Ankle T Biter McFluff Beast to do that job for an adult or a strong-willed teen etc. Here's a thought, maybe the UK can start creating regulations and a cert process for so called dangerous breeds? If later you find out Doug th Drug Dealer fooled the system on that one - you have an additional law you can charge him on if he is caught. JMO

We've already banned the ownership and breeding of certain breeds. ie Pit Bull terrier, the Japanese Tosa, the Dogo Argentino and the Fila Brasileiro ... XL Bully is the latest one and since there is no actual breed standard anything that looks remotely like one is likely to be seized if it is not registered. And if they are loose the police are likely to shoot them.
Also, if your dog attacks someone you can go to prison.
The problems are still happening because there is still a lot of them in circulation ... and being registered doesn't stop them biting. They will decline as they reach a natural end and since there is a ban on breeding/importing them there will be no more to be had.
If people want a dog, and I have three border collies .... there are lots of breeds to choose from. I don't think that anyone would object to someone's cocker spaniel that they use for emotional support. people are generally quite tolerant.
We are a nation of dog lovers after all
But using large bully breeds to frighten the neighbours and make yourself feel big and hard ...... is not acceptable.
