I went and visited my sister yesterday. We were watching tv and a commercial about owning gold came on. She is kind of a nervous nelly and with the upcoming election fears Trump will win and bought into the hype the market will crash and paper money is worthless. She was thinking of buying gold. I just laughed and asked her how would she buy gas, groceries, pay bills etc.
Would you have to carry around a scale and shave off slivers of gold off the gold bar? I think I talked her out of it.

This happens regularly with RW media advertising. Its more visible since it is 2024 and not 2004. Writing the copy for that crap and other "money" advice can pay well. Like SpaceCoast Paul!
From my limited learning experience I realize someone like me would have to find someone's newsletter to subscribe to.
The gold is for emergencies. That's why the small Costco bars are so popular. If paper currency collapses it will be tough, but its more likely a much smaller country will go down in flames versus the US, UK, Europe, India ...

Anyone advertising something for sale is not doing so for the benefit of the target audience. They are doing it to make money for themselves, so they will spin whatever story they think will resonate with their target audience. The advertisements represent a certain cost to the advertisers, so from the outset, whatever they are selling has to be marked up in price from its actual value at least to cover the cost of the advertising, and of course they are looking to make a profit on top of that. The commercials selling gold coins and other forms of precious metals are targeted at people who know nothing about economics or the precious metals market and very little about money.
