I wonder if he’d be ok with another Bophal, India in the US? Shit like this happens when both OSHA and environmental regulations are considered an option, not the law. How many resulting deaths would be acceptable? Who needs clean air, clean water, worker safety rules, 40 hour workweek, and the myriad other regulations that have made life better for us. It will be a race to the bottom for conservative states

jmho- but if Trump wins there will be no liberty to fight for. the fight, if we are to have one, is for THIS NOVEMBER. and bills, i am ALL IN for that fight. and if Trump loses, i am ALL IN for whatever fight comes AFTER that (if any), just as i have been for the last (8) years. but if this nation is stupid enough to ELECT a tyrant, that is the opposite of standing up to tyranny. it is standing up FOR tyranny. it is standing against fairness, empathy, equality, and all of the things i believe in. if you expect me, and others, to fight FOR that, you have another thing coming. i appreciate your sense of history and your dedication to all things politic. but if Trump wins, you will find yourself in a post political world. i am not going to expand on that for you or anyone else here. it is far too dark a vision of the future. but suffice to say that everything you now believe in is at stake this November. it is not too late, but that hour is drawing near. I don’t think you’re wrong on this, but I think it will get derailed in one of two ways.
1) Trump is less healthy than Biden. I think it’s more likely Trump will die before his term if over, or 2) his dementia becomes so apparent he has to be removed. The problem for the GOP is how divided they are. Once Trump is gone the whole coalition falls apart. His vp, his son and a variety of MAGA groupies will attempt to seize control, and split the party. MAGA will end up an angry minority. The problem is how much damage Trump could do before that happens. I truly believe you are underestimating the danger democracy in the US is in at this time by a lot.. IMO for all intents and purposes FOPA has become unimportant to what is happening right now. Whether he lives or dies is not the point. Whether the rot he has brought to the surface can be removed or not is the real problem. If it were just FOPA you would be right. But there are too many wannabes who want to out-trump FOPA and who have too many supporters to safely assume this may blow over. In terms medical terms, though I am no doctor and have no medical training whatsoever, I think we need to realize that this is a case of metastatic cancer that has spread to all parts of the body. You can treat it with a bandaid (thinking it will all go away once FOPA is out of the picture) or you treat it aggressively by going all out in trying to restore sanity and civility (as in not just me, me, me and who cares about others).

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. I'd prefer only the blood of tyrants... #joebidenforassassin

I don't think the current GOP would remove Trump, even if he got so crazy he needed a straitjacket. He's halfway there as it is. JMHO. I do believe there would be a HUGE fight in the GOP on who would lead if his health problems did take him down. Like an ugly fight. i agree. if he gets in, America is FUCKED.

But I think its better to assume its already happened and they delayed the effects of the law to happen after inauguration or at least the 2024 election results are known. I think the GOP/Trump's campaign are playing some things very strategic. Notice how the "Presidential Immunity" SCOTUS decision was released with no accompanying mmm documentation. Neither the majority opinion nor the againsts were released. (I haven't looked though after things droppped. I freaked and later came to my senses. It like the SCOTUS ruling the sky can be orange - which look at finninme photos. Happens often at certain times, seasons. ... All to cover up the BS and major political blunders on black jobs.

I won’t argue that what you’re saying might be true. I do agree this is a really dangerous time. I’m holding out hope that the Trump staffers attempting to pull this off will be as unorganized and bumbling as they were in his first term. Too busy fighting amongst themselves to really achieve what they want to do. That’s my hope, sad as it is.

Tiny , will you please change the title of this thread to PROJECT 2025? Plan 2025 sounds so innocuous.

You have made clear your intentions so why would I/should I have expectations of you doing anything other than leave the country. And I get it, dystopia sells much better than hope.

Revolutionaries who supported Independence from Britain had never achieved a majority and there were still many colonists who attempted to remain neutral on the matter. Loyalists were firmly opposed to independence and wished to remain part of the Empire. They outnumbered Revolutionaries in several areas and supported the crown for a variety of reasons. Some of them had spent years criticizing the Empire’s treatment of the colonies, but ultimately disagreed with separation. The complexity of colonial resistance to independence shows an American community that was often fiercely divided, with the topic of independence being argued about throughout British North America. link I am thankful that the minority fought against tyranny.

Distracted on their electronics and not interested in two old guys. However, if Trump wins, and suddenly they know gay or trans people who are being harassed, and DACA friends or co-workers being rounded up for the camps, or have a friend who gets prosecuted for having a miscarriage that the state thinks was an abortion, there will suddenly be a lot of people who think freedom is something worth fighting and dying for. I wish they would be more interested now, before the election, but I have confidence they will show up after the fact, if the worst comes to pass.

I really wish people of this country would make a concerted effort to study German history from 1923 to 1934. It is so easy to just keep saying "that would never happen here". But you are a farther along the way than you think. And if you wait too long to take action it may well be too late to do anything without a lot of hurt. Your trust in a tomorrow that may never come, while admirably optimistic, feels also somewhat naive considering the SC is already a patsy for FOPA and his ilk.

There are some significant differences between our current political climate and pre WWII Germany. Plus the far right has let the cat out of the bag by advertising their Project 2025 and suddenly more people are paying attention, causing the weasel Trump and his fascist minion Stephen Miller to frantically try to back pedal away from it. Yes I may be a crazy optimist but I’m not ready to give up on our democracy.

I am just in a dark space right now. The way the Dems are going after Biden feels like they are doing FOPAs work for him. It is like they never failed a test yet managed to graduate college SCL. The man blew one debate, ONE, and they act like the world will end

I think it is better to set the expectation that Congress will respond strongly to acts of extreme abuse of power by a president than that they won't act. That way, if they don't act, we can be outraged at them letting us down. If the expectation is they won't act, then if they don't, the reaction will simply be resignation to the inevitable.

My take action is entirely based on the voters to come out en masse and trounce what now passes for the Republican party. And not just once but for multiple elections to come.
Congress as it is now it completely powerless. It has become like a toothless old biddy who is trying to eat a particularly tough piece of beef. And unless and until the people start putting country before power consistently that won't change. So what does that leave to save democracy? A single person in the WH? Elected using the electoral vote which as we have seen does not necessarily reflect what the majority of the country wants? Very thin ice for democracy indeed.
As I said I am in a dark place right now so please forgive me for spoiling your weekend.

Not spoiling my weekend. There are too many people waving flags and shooting off fireworks without any thought of significance for my blood. This discussion needs to be taking place mor.

As some of them were putting it, they defeated the Nazis for a second time. Hoping it will rub off on us. And I really don’t want to think about the alternative. At best, we’re looking at complete chaos, nothing substantial getting done, and the threat of Trump accidentally starting some horrible war. At worst, it’s the plot of A Handmaid’s Tale.

I really think there are far more similarities than there are differences. But forget I ever brought it up. I am just in a dark space right now. Tbe way the Dems are going afyer Biden feels like they are doing FOPAs work for him. It is like they never failed a test yet managed to graduate college SCL. The man blew one debate, ONE, and they act like the world will end If you have never read 'It Can't Happen Here' a novel by Sinclair Lewis, you should. I read it a few years ago and it was very telling.
