Hey guys I need some guidance here. DH and I are going on our very first cruise later on this year. I purchased Carnival's trip insurance when I booked us. After reading up on Reddit and FB, I now think I should purchase additional trip insurance, mostly for any medical issues that may pop up.
And just to seal the deal for us, I just read an article in this month's Consumer Reports that advises travelers to purchase travel medical insurance.
So many of you are seasoned travelers! Can I get your recommendations here?
Thanks!

If you have Medicare, they will only cover care in foreign countries in very limited circumstances. You also should look into what is considered out-of-network and your coverage might be. Some credit cards also offer medical coverage in some circumstances when you charge the trip to that card.

Check the Carnival insurance. Most travel insurance includes medical for large items that require eg, evacuation to home The ship will also have a medical staff on board. I don’t know if there’s a charge for using Suggest to ask Walk, she’s gone on many cruises

The advice I got from Athena (thank you athena) was insureyourtrip dot com. They are kind of an insurance brokerage with a lot of different medical (and other) plans available. Decide what and how much you need and take it from there. No way am I going abroad without health insurance knowing Medicare covers bupkes abroad.

We have bought medical insurance through both Allianz and trip insurance store.com. While TD was still working, the insurance he had covered us internationally. So we first needed insurance that specifically covered us for covid to go to Fiji (requirement to get into the country).
There are policies that you can buy that will cover you for a full year of trips, but limit your trips length 30 days was $126/year. Unfortunately, our trips run longer so we weren’t able to get this. I seem to think that the medical insurance for the world cruise was about $2000. I think that was a Berkshire Hathaway policy, which had up to $1 million limit.
Just be aware that not all policies cover all states. I found a few excluded WA state.

My sister in law just had a fall down the stairs just after arriving in Athens. Fractured both wrists and needed surgery on both. Stayed in hospital 5 days. She has no underlying medical problems. Luckily, they had purchased a year long policy for a safari last year.
