www.msn.com/en-us/weather/topstories/earth-has-hit-12-record-breaking-months-of-heat-here-s-what-it-means/ar-BB1nH4i6?ocid=msedgntp&pc=DCTS&cvid=2b482b0ced7a417a856509a31c3248a4&ei=25New climate warnings were announced Wednesday, including that the planet is experiencing its warmest May on record – in turn bringing the tally to twelve consecutive months of record-breaking globally, according to a report by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). Places like Southeast Asia and India saw record early-summer high temperatures in the month of May.The WMO report includes more evidence that the planet is very close to failing to meet the Paris Agreement climate targets, which aim to limit the average global temperature increase to 1.5 Celsius since the Industrial Revolution on the moderate emissions scenario, and a 2-degree Celsius rise in the worst-case scenario. And the heat is not expected to relent. There is an 86% likelihood that at least one of the next five years, between 2024 and 2028, will surpass 2023 to become the warmest on record, the WMO report found. Not good. I hope this starts reversing soon. What do you think?

I'm watching & waiting to see what hurricane season is going to be like. It's obvious that the Spring temps are hotter than normal here. We've got insects that we don't normally see until mid to late Summer that have made an appearance in April or May. It's gonna be a long Summer...

I live at the tip of Virginia. Last night a tornado touched down about 20 miles east (WV) of our house. Last month 1 touched down about 25 miles north (MD) of our house. I have lived here 15 years and have never heard of one within 100 miles until now.

That string of tornados in MD was alarming enough for me to sign up for text alerts from Ready PA.

Then for a scary few years they seemed to be more frequently in our area - Tennessee, north GA and north AL. Then that seemed to shift north of us, to your area, where I don’t remember many occurring before. Strange.

I’m curious if Floridians have experienced jumping insurance rates. I’ve seen a couple articles about insurance firms finding Florida uninsurable due to the increase in strength and frequency of the hurricanes.

My former neighbors have been complaining about it. Big jumps too. Also, the government is piling on by adding big increases in property taxes. So, FL is no longer a "cheap" place to live. Not that I thought it was when we were there. The percentage of uninsured drivers is big, so auto insurance is very expensive too.

I’m curious if Floridians have experienced jumping insurance rates. I’ve seen a couple articles about insurance firms finding Florida uninsurable due to the increase in strength and frequency of the hurricanes. Yes, insurance costs have been going up noticeably in Florida for the last 5 years. The "not the best" insurer for my Florida Townehouse dropped me in 2017/2018 - before all the big Hurricanes. I had a hard time finding an insurer. I got scammed a couple of times - where I would talk with/work with an insurance agent (from one of the Big Name insurance agencies) - they might ask me to pay for an inspection/wind mitigation/etc and then they'd put together a policy, we'd go over it, they'd issue the policy I'd pay and then BAM! within 4 to 6 weeks I'd get dropped by the insurer (and I'd get a prorated refund). Never did the insurance agent say or imply that I wasn't really going to get the policy/coverage. I'm assuming the insurance agent got their cut of the "new policy" they wrote, though. I had that happen twice (the second one assured me my property was insurable) - at least I had all the paper work from the inspections I had done in hand so I didn't have to re-pay for those services. During the search if the agent said they couldn't use the less than 3 month old inspections I had in hand - and that I would have to have their inspector do the inspections - I was like "yeah, no. I guess we're done. with a "go rot in hell" under my breath". just another reason I have a very low opinion of businesses in Florida. It truly is Buyer Beware. I did finally get insurance on my paid off townehouse - for an astronomical amount of money. I suspect I would have had better luck with insurance if I had had a mortgage. I know people who do not have a mortgage who have dropped parts of their insurance coverage in a bid to lower their costs. I suspect it's the people with paid off houses who are complaining the most. I'd guess the costs aren't too bad - we're not hearing about lenders being in trouble because the houses that back the loans they made are uninsured and a MUCH bigger liability on their books (than insured houses).

Sorry about your insurance problems. I lost all respect for insurance companies when our house got hit by a tornado in 2011. My insurance wasn’t even the worst - one of my neighbors lost their whole second floor and it rained down onto the first floor, flooding it. His insurance wanted him to save it and reinstall it back after the house is rebuilt. Another guys house was broken from its foundation and they wanted him to bring in a bulldozer and shove it into place. Crazy.
