Done, over, finished. Yay me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hated that job. Hated it. Stress, misery, fear every day. Never knowing if one of the boss' little minions was going to pick on something else I did. Yesterday, they did. Decided to call me out for an issue on a client file I was involved in a year ago. Like, how do I fix a year-old issue? Even the kid who called me could not answer that. I offered him solutions, which I think pissed him off. Hey, you came to the table with nothing, fella. I believe he went to the boss and whined about it. When the boss called and started in about what a good employee I am, I cut him off, wished him well and ended the call.
The good news is I made a retirement budget years ago. Needs tweaking now; a few things changed since I did it. Money-wise, we are in very good shape -- no major bills; we own the house, cars, home repairs are current, no outstanding CC debt.
The better news: found money this week: 118 savings bonds -- 116 are DHs and 2 were mine -- about $13K when they are all cashed out (yes, they are going into savings; no wild spending here). I can turn on Social Security (eight months away from full amount, but at this point it may not be worth the wait; I will go online this weekend and do the math. I do plan to work part time; I like the involvement outside of myself. I am able-bodied, enjoy people in general and have a lot of computer skills.
I will update the resume (it is in good shape; just needs an end date for the last job , and update my LinkedIn and Indeed profiles. Oh, and my work computer -- yeah, I reset that to the factory setting. All my passwords and other hard work -- nah, y'all get that yourselves. Frankly, freedom feels pretty good. I have not had a vacation in 7 years. I plan to take a little bit of time to enjoy life. And so some projects. Any advice? Feel free to post it.

They are going to find our very fast how bad it will be. No one to carry the big load or work on the crappy files no one wants to do. I do have a contact there who is a friend, so she will keep me posted via text.

I just paid my Amex and Visa bills and checked out Social Security. An $83 difference per month if I start now vs December. Not really worth it. I can make just over $24K in addition, so I plan to find something good. Maybe two good things. Different things. Things that help humanity and don't make me scared to go to work.

Sheesh, even my husband knew I was miserable. He never said a thing. I guess he knew I would figure it out.

My only advice is to think about what you want to do and set up a routine. I've been retired for four months now and enjoying it quite a bit, but after I got bit by a dog I couldn't work out for a little while and I skipped my whole routine for about a week and just sat around feeling lost. I didn't start feeling better until I got back to the routine that I have set up for my weekdays.

Congrats! And you left with the perfect F you!
I don’t know how more perfect than setting your computer back to factory settings could be. The only shame is you won’t be able to be there to see them realize it. I hope your coworker friend takes video. You might want to give her the head’s up, so she’s prepared to video that.

Thank you for sharing. I am sorry you had to go through this.
And, i'm glad that I'm not alone with having to go to a job as you describe. Fear is the newish descriptor for me and one I'm still getting used to.

You are so right about this. The brain turns to mush without a reason to rise and get going every day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The second whiteboard is for the exercise routine. I have a good one already, but I will use it to commit to keep going.

My ex-boss will likely be the only one who sees it, as we have worked from home since the start of the pandemic. But yes, he will be ticked off!!!!!!

7 years since you took a vacation? What kind of work did you do? Regardless- congrats! It involved financial documents and a lot of client contact. I also have a husband who is not doing well health-wise and cannot travel. I am his caretaker, as my brothers do not live here, our parents are deceased and his only remaining family is an alcoholic sister.

Imma want more deets here. Tell us how this went down!
So, your colleague was being annoying and tattled to your boss; your boss called and you just said "nope, we're done here. I resign effective immediately?"

So, your colleague was being annoying and tattled to your boss; your boss called and you just said "nope, we're done here. I resign effective immediately?" You did get that pretty accurately. Yes, this punk was one of his minions who lords his title over people, but then when he gets down to it he does that, "Well, what do you think we should do here?" or "How do you you think the best way to handle this would be?" Dude, if your an alleged supervisor, you don't need to play the touchy-feely game. If you're calling me with an issue, you need to bring ideas to the table. I do too, of course, and between us, get a plan together. And don't get annoyed when I give you what you asked for. Neither of us has to like the situation or the solution. We have to solve it. No one walks away perfectly happy. No one wants a star, a cookie and a pat on the head from you.
He was so condescending, like he was speaking to his six-year-old son. Your son isn't working for you. Asking what I think the solution should be when you know damned well what you want to hear is pointless. If you were expecting tears and the rendering of garments and begging and pleading...nah, not from me.

Every time I read about someone else’s crappy job situation, I realize how lucky I am to have one that I can work autonomously and my work has value to my management.
