I found this significant: The speaker’s embrace of Ukraine aid represents a remarkable evolution for Johnson, who voted against funding for the country as a rank-and-file member. ...
And more recently, Johnson received a key intelligence briefing from CIA Director Bill Burns, who painted a picture of the dire situation on the battlefield in Ukraine and the global consequences of inaction, ...
Another factor that sources say weighed heavily on his decision-making: Johnson’s oldest son was recently accepted into the Naval Academy.
“To put it bluntly, I would rather send bullets to Ukraine than American boys. My son is going to begin in the Naval Academy this fall. This is a live-fire exercise for me as it is so many American families,” Johnson told reporters. “This is not a game, this is not a joke.”
link Ignorantly voted against it. Gained knowledge. Got blood invested in the situation. Then not only voted for it but brought it to the floor risking his position. Amazing how that happened. Wish our representatives would do that more often.

I'm actually glad his son was accepted into the Naval Academy. Now the speaker has some real skin in the game. That's why you don't get stingy with the funding when money is needed to fight a war. And I agree that I'd rather fund one side (that will hopefully win) than send American soldiers & sailors into the fight.

There is an active poster here who only wanted funding for our southern border. Only a few dollars (if any) for Ukraine or Israel. His knowledge of our planet's world wars is almost zero. We as a country have been involved in World War I and II which resulted in the lose of 521,915 American lives and total casualties (injured and killed) of 1,396,763 . Failure to stop Russian advancement into Ukraine will only encourage Russia to invade Poland and the Baltic States. Poland and the three nations of the Baltic States are all members of NATO. World War III would be upon us.
This poster states he has children and grandchildren. I doubt very much he would like to see his children and grandchildren fighting in World War III.

Did anyone notice how Trump, who was 100% against giving money to the Ukraine, did a 180 after Congress voted to give money to the Ukraine, and is now 100% pro giving money to Ukraine? A man of such strong moral beliefs.

Can’t remember where the article was about the 180, but this one discusses how he tried to have it both ways - both pro-Ukrainian war but also wanting Europe to put in more of the money. But the former president, wary of absorbing any public losses as he faces the first criminal trial of a former American president, had tried to have it both ways ahead of the vote. On social media he wrote that “Ukrainian Survival and Strength” was “important” to the United States, and asked, “Why isn’t Europe giving more money to help Ukraine? Why is it that the United States is over $100 Billion Dollars into the Ukraine War more than Europe, and we have an Ocean between us as separation!”

www.nytimes.com/2024/04/20/us/politics/trump-ukraine-house-vote.html And the answer to his question: While big, wealthy countries can afford to provide more in absolute terms, smaller countries are making significant offerings of their own. In fact, relative to each country’s gross domestic product, the countries near Ukraine are providing the most support.
Denmark and Estonia have each committed aid totaling more than 2% of their gross domestic product, with Estonia being the highest, at 3.55%, according to the tracker. Norway, Lithuania, Latvia, Finland and Poland also stand out among the highest donors by share of GDP. Malta, on the other hand, has committed aid totaling only 0.01% of its GDP, the lowest for European countries in the data.
The U.S. has committed 0.32% of its GDP toward Ukraine aid, which falls below the percentages committed by the U.K. (0.55%) and Germany (0.57%).

Graham's lips have a certain brown, earthy tone and stinky smell to them according to sources. Lindsey Graham Crediting Trump for Ukraine Aid Passing Raises EyebrowsRemarks made by Senator Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican, on Sunday crediting former President Donald Trump for Ukraine aid funding has raised eyebrows on social media. During an interview appearance on Fox News Sunday, Graham stated his approval for the House of Representatives approving more than $60 billion in aid to Ukraine to bolster its fight against Russia's invasion that began in February 2022. The bill designates approximately $10 billion of the Ukraine funding as repayable loans. "There's a loan component to it. This would not have passed without President Trump. I want to thank the House Speaker [Mike Johnson] and [Minority Leader] Hakeem Jeffries working together in a bipartisan fashion to give weapons to Ukraine to fight a fight that matters to us," Graham said. "And President Trump has created a loan component to this package that gives us leverage down the road." Rest of article here: Lindsey Graham Crediting Trump for Ukraine Aid Passing Raises Eyebrows

And then there is Marjorie Taylor Greene calls on Johnson to resign after foreign aid bills pass: ‘If he doesn’t do so, he will be vacated’ link Marge was furious the Ukrainian aid got approved, and said that she hoped all the GOP House members who voted for this payment heard from their angry constituents about it. So I’m going to make sure Marge, who is my representative (I type those words furiously) gets an earful from me, a constituent. Again. Pretty sure she has me on ‘ignore.’ She stopped sending me those stupid cardboard mail outs touting her great work for this county (like implementing a contest to see who would send her the prettiest photo of their own county, which she would hang on the wall in her offices) when I told her what I thought of her job performance. No more junk mail from MTG.

Marjorie Taylor Greene introduced an amendment to a supplemental funding bill for Ukraine that would require members of Congress who vote in favor to enlist in the Ukrainian military. The funding bill is part of a larger legislative package that combines four bills providing $26.4 billion to Israel, $60.8 billion to Ukraine, $8.1 billion to counter China and aid Taiwan, and other defense measures. “Any Member of Congress who votes in favor of this Act shall be required to conscript in the Ukrainian military,” the amendment reads.
