What the hell is wrong with people. Had the mother bear been around to protect her cubs by injuring or killing one of these Darwin Award winners, the mother bear would have been caught and euthanized. Video after the article below. North Carolina Group Caught on Camera Pulling Black Bear Cubs from Tree to Get SelfieThe incident was captured on April 16 and saw the group standing outside of a Buncombe County apartment complex pulling the black cubs from the tree A group in North Carolina was caught pulling bear cubs from a tree to take a selfie with them. The incident, which was caught on camera on April 16 and shared by ABC11 affiliate WLOS, saw the group standing outside of a Buncombe County apartment complex pulling the black cubs from the tree and turning around to take a picture with one of them. Meanwhile, the clip also included a cub running back toward the fence. North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission special projects biologist Ashley Hobbs told the outlet that authorities were called after the video was sent to the commission on April 16. Horrible selfish people. I had not looked at the video until now. I hope they get fined and suffer at least some social consequences.

I saw that on the news tonight. No charges will be filed. Disgusting behavior.

Too bad mama bear wasn't nearby. Talk about stupid! Those people are very lucky they didn't end up at the hospital, or in the morgue.

Because the bear cubs were not taken away by these fools no charges were filed. I hope the people of Asheville and the rest of North Carolina turn their back on these idiots.
What were they thinking? Never mind. They weren't.

If mama bear had hurt them, Game and Wildlife authorities would have had to capture and euthanized her. Danger to humans. I hope the one cub found its way back to mom.

Never mind. They weren't. Thanks for posting the reason. I wonder how that first woman would react if she had a kid in a stroller and someone lifted them out to take selfies. I hope the stress of that encounter does not sicken that cub.

I think people think black bears aren’t dangerous like grizzly bears.
They are. There are unfortunate encounters between black bears and people in the Great Smoky National parks all the time.
It’s the same with elk and moose - they are not farm animals or Disney characters. Stop trying to take selfies with wild animals.

Or even the idiots trying to get selfies with bison in Yellowstone in spite of plenty of signage warning of the danger of the animals. Some of those idiots paid a price.

GF and I were in Yellowstone a few years ago. I was out of the car taking photos of a herd of bison in a field. Some were very close to the parking lot. The herd then decided to walk THROUGH the parking lot, with some ultimately passing within a few feet of me. I was standing next to the car at this point, but made sure I didn't move a step. I ain't dumb.

And I laugh at every single one of them who got tossed or gored. I recently saw a video of an absolute loser who thought it would be cool to go pet a moose. He got his ass stomped good. People have lost their minds and all common sense.
Edit - found the video.

This would have been a good time for one of the folks in the video to have a firearm on hand...to shoot it into the air to scare off the moose.
