I scanned an article that said grocers are using GPS to track meat. It's like the antitheft devices on clothing and other items. Apparently meat is shop lifted frequently.
Does your grocer use this?
I have not seen it in any stores I have been in Phoenix area.

I haven't seen that kind of box around meat in my area. It doesn't seem that bad as long as every cash register has the item you use to open the box. I think it's better than what they did locking up all the electronics so you need a clerk to even put it in your shopping basket.

And a lot more stuff locked up. Of course the clerk with the key is no where to be found. I noticed in Walmart today a huge restocking and moving items. The fabric area was vacant as well as the lotions and personal products which were moved.

I think they keep shuffling things around to force us to look at all of their products, instead of being able to ignore everything else and go directly to the items that we want.

I have not seen anti theft devices in the grocery store, but there are too many jobs and not enough people in this area. I wonder how much time that would add, tagging the meat and then cashier removing the tag. Our closest Walmart is now 90 percent self checkout. How would it work with that? I already hate that to buy alcohol I have to stand in the huge lines where there are actual cashiers.

I have not seen it in any stores I have been in Phoenix area. I would bet it is localized - the stores around here don’t have much security, but just a few miles from here in areas with more “affordable” housing the security ramps up quickly - including theft detectors at the door.
