So a woman from who seeks an abortion can get a life sentence, but an asshole husband who tries to make her miscarry gets half a year? linkA Texas man who drugged his wife's drinks in an attempt to induce an abortion was sentenced to 180 days in jail and 10 years on probation.
Mason Herring, a 39-year-old Houston attorney, pleaded guilty Wednesday to injury to a child and assault of a pregnant person. He had initially been charged with felony assault to induce abortion.
Catherine Herring, who has filed for divorce, told the court the jail sentence was not long enough. She said their 1-year-old daughter, their third child, was born about 10 weeks premature, has developmental delays and attends therapy eight times a week.
“I do not believe that 180 days is justice for attempting to kill your child seven separate times,” Catherine Herring said.
Catherine Herring told authorities her husband in March 2022 began lecturing her on hydration and offering water. She said she became severely ill after drinking from the first cup that appeared cloudy, which her husband explained was perhaps the result of the cup or water pipes being dirty.
Catherine Herring became suspicious and began refusing multiple other drinks her husband offered. She later found in the trash packaging for a drug that contains misoprostol, a medicine used to induce abortion.
She also gave police videos from hidden cameras she installed at her home where her husband was no longer living. One of them showed him mixing a substance in one of her drinks, Catherine Herring said.
Mason Herring's attorney, Dan Codgell, called the plea deal and sentence reasonable.
“It’s a sad situation and Mason has accepted his responsibility,” Cogdell said.

A little off topic here and on a pedestal.
Northern Mississippi is part of the Mempis, TN TV viewing area. So we see quite a few TV ads for people running for office in Mississippi. A rather pathetic ad (in my opinion) is current Mississippi U.S. Senator Roger Wicker running for reelection. His ads go off on how bad the U.S. economy is under President Biden. Nothing could be further from the truth. Any way, Wicker goes on and on about reelecting him and the final shot of the ad is a picture of Wicker and trump.
Why would anyone associate him/herself with a man with so many criminal indctments against him and someone found guilty in a civil trial of sexually abusing a woman and sladering her.
Mississippi is the poorest state in the nation in addition to being the most uneducated state too. Additionally, Mississippi receives more federal funding (where the money comes from mostly blue states) than most (if not the most) other states. I hope the women of Mississippi take notice of it all and send Wicker packing.
Getting off the pedestal now.

What is the penalty for a physician who performs an abortion. Shouldn’t someone who is not a physician get a longer term, because they are not allowed to practice medicine without a license

Some interesting comments posted by the readers of the below linked article. "I thought with the draconian abortion laws there, that doing something like that would be considered attempted murder? Unbelievable this guy gets off with 6 months for basically poisoning his wife and attempting to kill the unborn child." "You'd think that Texas would have tried to charge him an attempted murder. Rules for men seem to be different that rules for women in this state. Wonder why?" Texas attorney who poisoned pregnant wife with abortion medication sentenced to 180 days in jail

if you mean "birthing vessel" by women, i think that is a little harsh. if you mean anything other than that, i agree.

Trying to wrap my head around this story.
A man, who is an attorney, slips abortion inducing medication into his wife's drink because he doesn't want another child receives 6 months.
A woman, who is carrying a child with chromosomal condition, that could jeopardize her life cannot have an abortion without the threat of prosecution to the doctor. Consequences to the doctor could be life in prison, $100k fine, and loss of medical license.
Yeah, I agree with the title of this thread: Texas, enough said!

Because in that above case the guy is basically OK with killing the unborn child and his wife. Two people, yet because he is male and an attorney, he gets off with much less punishment than your average attempted murder. I wish I had remembered this thread when I was listening to a YouTube video. It was a comedian interviewing people about the abortion issue. And taping the backpedaling when the person called abortion murder. Decided it had to be premeditated but was unwilling to put that label on a former football star running for office. No way could Herschel Walker be a murderer in this guy's mind probably because he was male and running for office endorsed by the GOP.

As a side note, Texas is reporting an increase in teen pregnancy.
The article didn’t say how many were unwed teen moms who would require tax money to support their child, and how many were married teens who would not need government support, but I’m guessing this will be a bigger tax burden for Texas citizens to pay, especially if the end up leaving the Union.
That and more teen moms raising their kids in poverty.
Probably the far right figured all the teen sex would stop happening once abortion was no longer an option.

Vitale needs to be overturned. We need to force kids to pray away those impure desires.

State law that they need to be married off by age 14, when they start to have those impure thoughts. Dad selects a spouse who needs to be at least 10 years older and steadily employed. That way she’ll be under the control of her spouse and making a quiver full of babies made in wedlock. The teen boys will be boys, after all, but they aren’t the ones who can get pregnant so it’s ok. (I hope my sarcasm is understood in this post - but this is actually the real beliefs of many of the far right evangelicals that live near me.)

Here's a mother who should never, ever have had children. A Kansas City mother is accused of killing her infant by putting her in the ovenThe mother told the baby’s grandmother that she put the 1-month-old “in the oven instead of the crib,” according to court records. A Kansas City mother allegedly killed her 1-month-old baby by placing her in the oven, according to court documents filed in Jackson County, Missouri. The mother was arrested and charged with felony child endangerment in the first degree, according to a complaint filed Friday in county circuit court. Officers from the Kansas City Police Department went to the home Friday afternoon after receiving a report of a “non-breathing infant,” the complaint stated. “Officers observed apparent burn wounds to the victim’s body,” a detective said in the probable cause statement. “The Kansas City Fire Department (KCFD) responded and declared the victim deceased on scene.” First responders learned the mother “went to put the child down for a nap and accidentally placed her in the oven instead of the crib,” the records said. Even if you accidently put a baby in the oven because you are tired, what would make you turn on the oven? Poor baby. I hope the suffering was brief.

Securing another generation of poor people to imprison and keep those tax dollars flowing to private jails. If they, by some miracle, do absolutely nothing wrong, they can work at WalMart for super low wages and get food stamps that will then be used at WalMart, funneling more tax dollars to the richest people in our country!
