When I was growing up, music albums were a great gift to give my siblings. At one time, these were vinyl, later it was CDs. I'm invited to a baby shower for my niece next Saturday and I thought that a CD of lullabies would be a great gift, but I have no idea if she even has a CD player. (I'll ask her mom.) Do people still gift music? How do you do it?

I make a lot of CDs, but that is for someone I know will use them. Flash drive works for some. They can make CDs from that if they prefer. Of course, they can't immediately tell what it is when they open it!

Great niece is 16 and she only wants vinyl.
I said I would never do it, but I mostly listen on digital.

Thread and opening post resulted in a flashback for me.
Almost sixty years ago, The Four Tops were quite popular-I liked them alot. Knowing my younger sister was 'meh' about the The Four Tops, I bought her their 'Reach Out' vinyl album for Christmas anyway. Knowing my sister would pester me asking me what I bought her for Christmas, I told her. Sister was 'meh' about the album so I told her let's open the gift them and play the album now. So we did. Or I did anyway.
Win-win for me.

MN-Investor my grandchildren in the UK have a Yoto player. I don't know if they're popular in the US too. I'm not suggesting you buy the player, but if they have one, you can buy cards with lullabies/children's songs for it. We've bought a lot of Yoto cards over the years (both music and children's audio books). When DGS was a baby, his parents used to put in the cards/turn on the music on for him.

My kids are either on apple music or spotify.
We used to have a CD player. I got it when DS was born. We got rid of it in the great purge in his room a few years back. No one had touched it in 5/6 years.
We bought a personal laptop 6 years ago. I think that has a CD player, only because DH was looking for one. He checks out books on CD from the library, turns them into MP4s, and listens to them on his iPad while he works.
I haven't gotten a CD drive with my work issued laptops for at least 5/6 years, maybe even longer.
I might look into a kindle fire for kids and see what kind of apps can be downloaded on it. I'd rather put a kindle fire for kids in a baby's room over a computer. It's also smaller than a CD player.
I will say my 2013 car does have a CD player in it. DD1 plugs in her phone when she wants to listen all her Taylor Swift.

If they have a dvd player, it will play cds. I don't know about a blu-ray player, though.

I won an album once. I can't remember who the band was or where I entered the contest. When I got it I was kinda meh. Now winning it has meaning for me. I know we still have it. H. will remember. Edit: Doh. I used to give lullaby tapes as gifts for new babies. They weren't cheap. I recall two coworkers wanted the CDs for a baby gift for another coworker. They did not like the price but the gift was well received with continual compliments. I would say a thumb drive of lullabys.

You could make a play list on Spotify for her.

And yes, I listen to music in the latest formats too. But when driving I love a good cd playing with nothing but songs I love. Heck I've still got my old MP3 player with 250 OLD songs on it. I use it sometimes when I'm walking outside. Yeah, I know I'm OLD.

I am assuming the mother to be is under 45 years old and would rather listen to music from her phone.

I am assuming the mother to be is under 45 years old and would rather listen to music from her phone. My niece is 25. I'm sure she listens to music on her iPhone. This past summer I was clearing out things from the house that I would never use again. A number of years ago my husband bought a very nice German made turntable. We also had the nice turntable my sweetie had used in college. Knowing that actual records are a thing now with Gen X, I texted my Gen X nieces and asked if any of them would like one of the turntables. My 23-year old niece, a videographer, replied right away, so she got the newer turntable. The niece who is now expecting asked for the other turntable. I visited her the following month and her husband had it all hooked up to their stereo system and they were playing a Beatles LP that I had given them. But no, I'm not going to find an LP of lullabies.

GenXers are 44-59 years old. Millenials are 26-44 years old. Your nieces are Gen Z!

I have nephews and nieces spanning all those generations - my oldest nephew is 47, my youngest niece is 20. But yes, it was two of the younger nieces from the Gen Z generation who asked for the turntables. I'm a Baby Boomer. How on earth did the GenXers get so old? I remember my grandma commenting "I didn't feel old until I realized that I had a daughter who was 60." What hit home for me was a comment I saw recently. When you hear the phrase "30 years ago," what is your first thought? If it's the 1970s, you're a Baby Boomer!
